As well as faster data and bigger data capacity, the whole point of 4g is to improve coverage.

I must admit that I am now of an age where technology is leaving me behind! But you are correct, the lower frequency transmission of 4G means it travels further for the same power.

That may mean we can get coverage here without any additional masts - just new dishes on existing masts. But I think on some masts there may be little room left for new dishes!

I'd been with Ovivo around 20 months so had my money's worth.

I'd always wondered why they were never mentioned on Martin's main website or the newsletter. I thought perhaps it because he wasn't sure about their financial viability.

When he started actively recommending them, I took it as good news - he must have decided that they are now established and on sounder financial footing.

In the light of events, this wasn't the case. So why did he ignore them for 2 years?

My very thoughts too. Martin was certainly promoting Samba Mobile, another ad-based, MVNO and they only offer internet (no calls)

I guess Martin was finally persuaded by Ovivo's massive expansion plans and the fact that Ovivo was no longer a 'one man band'. But it seems those plans were a last ditch effort for a small MVNO to stay in business, given that Cognatel is now abandoning small MVNOs.

I think this problem with Cognatel happened quite suddenly as Ovivo's creator, Darius Zand, has not, apparently, been considering 'rising from the ashes' by creating a new company. His sole directorship is with Ovivo but he has formerly been a director of other apparently failed companies.

I wonder what other small MVNOs out there are also going to 'shut shop' in the coming days/weeks?

Whilst Giffgaff does offer a good alternative, it is certainly not "cheap as chips" when compared to the competition for a low user.

  • I am sorry that people who joined recently may have lost out. I joined early in the life of Ovivo and have paid £25 in total ( including credit I have now lost). For the use I received for that amount I am really pleased so I am sorry the format was unsuccessful and hope one if the big companies can give light users like me a similar model to use , unless it was they forced the closure.
  • Talk talk are offering a £3.50 a mth for 12 mths deal fr existing customers which I have ordered for dd

When porting your number to 3, has anyone got a confirmation email or anything of the sort, during the weekend?

When I filled in the port form for three it said it would be the next working day so I take that to mean they don't perform the port on a weekend.
