The calorific value variations can make a maximum difference of around £60 pa to the "average" bill but in the real world more like £15 so not enough to worry about. The CV figures used are in the public domain and easily applied to your own calculations.

I know you should not have to calculate your own bill but their contractual arrangement is to only produce a bill every 6 months, working it out yourself means there are no surprises around the corner.

    Why should you have to?

Next time you take a flight, why not work out the base cost, the fuel surcharge, the departure tax and all other taxes yourself instead of expecting the airline to tell you?

Next time you take a train, why not work out the base cost, the network charges, and all the taxes yourself instead of expecting the train company to do it for you?

People really are much too molly-coddled these days, aren't they, going around expecting a supplier to provide the customer with an invoice when, of course, it's the customer who should be wasting her or his time, helping the poor supplier produce a bill. . .

    :T

Exactly... Why should we have to!

We,ve been with this shambles of a company for 10 months and still no sign of a bill!

So much for their contractual agreement of producing a bill every 6 months then.

Make a formal complaint. If after eight weeks, they still haven't produced a bill or given you a satisfactory response, you can forward your complaint to the Energy Ombudsman. The only way they're going to get their act together is if they're forced to do so by customers and/or the Energy Ombudsman.

There many things in life you should not have to do but it is in your own interests to check for yourself. Do you check your change in a shop, do you check how much the cashpoint has given you, do you check your supermarket receipt, do you look to see if anything is coming when the green man shows on the crossing ?

I have had a bill covering my first 5 months with them but I am not really worried about lack of billing as it takes 2 seconds to put the meter reading into my spreadsheet on any given day and it will show the exact status of my account at that time.

molerat my dad has been with Extra Energy for 9 months and has got an electric bill but not one for the gas even though he has asked 3 times.
Do you know of any software that will work out the total cost of gas used or how you can put these details into a spreadsheet. His meter is an imperial one so a little bit harder to work out.
    Thank you.

Imperial is not really any harder to work out, just an extra multiplier of 2.83 in the (already complicated to some) calculation. A spread sheet is not difficult but you do need to understand the basics of setting one up.
http://www.ukpower.co.uk/tools/smart_meter_calculator/ seems to work as a bill calculator. There is of course the variations in calorific value to take into account but that should not make much more than £15 - £20 difference on the average annual bill.

has anyone switched & NOT paid the leaving fee due to their billing shambles?

there's definitely cheaper tariffs out there now for me, even taking the exit fees into account, & since the reps have now disappeared from here & nearly all recent feedback is negative (& seemingly getting worse), i think i'm off!

A switch would not take place until the exit fee is paid to the company you are switching from.

The calorific value stated on our E-E bill is 39.2476. Hope this helps.
