Add your feedback on energy supplier Extra Energy

Hi Attiya
I have read the posts above and I believe that all the queries above relate to domestic supplies, my queries relates to commercial supplies for our business.
We have 2 units that have considerable usage that are currently billed monthly, and automatically, as we have smart meters installed. I have obtained quotes from several suppliers for our renewal & Extra Energy are the cheapest by some distance. However, price is not our only consideration.
If we went ahead with Extra Energy would these units still be billed monthly? I could calculate the cost on a monthly basis for our accounts and accrue it but I don't want to. We have smart meters to reduce our administration burden on our utility accounts. We also want to review the usage and cost on a monthly basis, based on BILLED usage, as we are a manufacturing company who are constantly trying to improve our carbon footprint. 6 monthly billing would not be acceptable to us.
I also have concerns with the on-line system and how much 'maintenance' we would be required to do on our account. As I said we have smart meters to remove this burden. My concerns are that we would spend far too much time on matters that should be dealt with automatically.
What assurances do you have for the commercial industry?0 -

As far as I am aware and have been told off other suppliers the distribution and transport costs are included in all costs with energy suppliers.......except from Extra Energy which state in there T&C quote " We can charge you for costs related to transportation and distribution of gas or electricity (or both) to your site and meter charges"
This clause in the contract has apparently caused quite a number of people to be charged various hundreds of pounds on top of what they already pay.
Through my work we had 3 different energy advisory places which did not offer prices and were simply there to advise that a lot of people have been caught out by this clause so please be careful when signing up to them.
Hi soa66,
Thanks for your comments.
This is a clause in our business T&Cs and it’s common for such a clause to be included in supplier’s T&Cs. It means that if any costs related to the transportation or distribution of gas or electricity (or both) to your site are increased by the relevant industry bodies, this cost will be passed onto you in the form of an increase in your tariff.
There are tariffs advertised by other suppliers that state ‘no pass-through’ charges, but then typically the supplier will add this risk into their tariff as a risk premium.
Since extraenergy has been trading there have been no increases in transportation or distribution charges and therefore we have not had to act on this clause.
Hope this helps,

Hi all, I have just taken the plunge and signed up for 12 months on v3.
My contract with Eon runs out on 25th Oct and so it looks like they will put me on a higher tariff until the switch takes effect in five weeks.0 -

I started to switch to Extra Energy September 2014 from EDF. It has not gone well, they somehow produced a different reading of my gas meter than the one I sent them. I have spoken to them several times and on one occasion I got the impression they thought I was just getting electricity from them instead of dual fuel. they are now sorting out with EDF (24/10 and still no resolution) who have been very good. Customer service at Extra Energy is non existent, they have not replied to my emails and a formal complaint to customer service. I now have to wait till my meter reads the higher number they used as I cant pay for gas I haven't yet used. In all, you may get cheaper fuel but you also get a big headache. I found EDF to be very good and had no problem with them during our 3 year relationship but have to save money. I'm thankful that the contract is only for 1 year so I may switch back to EDF.Holding back the years...0

Just to add some balance, my switch has gone well. There has been a slight delay in getting a final bill from my previous supplier M&S Energy (2 weeks after i started with EE), but nothing to worry about.
However I've only switched to them for electricity, gone elsewhere for Gas, so don't know if being duel fuel is more complicated.0 -
Seems to be a lot of negative feedback for ExtraEnergy yet they have a 5 star service rating on the Energy helpline site0

Any idea when we will receive the £12 green levy payment.
Thanks,
Hi MABLE,
We're in the process of crediting all customers with the £12 Government Electricity Rebate. This will be shown clearly on the bill that relates to 12th October - as per DECC guidelines. (N.B This may not be your first bill, for example if this is for the period April - Sept. In this case it will be on your following bill for Oct - Mar). It'll be clearly labelled as 'Government Electricity Rebate' as a credit on your bill.
Thanks,
