A car nearly £30k... You say your employer gives an allowance... What happens if you lose your job half way through?
As I'm assuming the finance is in your name...

Sorry very off topic just curious.

I would have to get another job... I wouldn't lose my job anyway unless the company went under which is not going to happen if it did though I would be employed in the same industry by another manufacturer

just found this site whilst searching other things this tyre is £50 cheaper than on ATS Goodyear Eagle NCT5 225/50 R17 94 Y RUN ON FLAT

    http://www.tyrecomp.co.uk/tyres-car/tyres-all/225-50-r17-y.htm

may be of use to some of you
  • To detract from the gloom, I think you'll be fine. Those sort of mileages are not hard on cars, and if I was looking for a large car in 3 or 4 years time I'd be happy to have yours!
Keep us up to date every year or so, but I'm going to guess that in 4 years time you'll be thinking hard as to whether or not you should even replace it, or can get another year or 2 out of it. You may even find that death knell is when you give it to your partner, as it will be short journeys that kill it.
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

haha, it is a bit like that on here...something to brighten your day after being out at work for 12 hours..

yeh i have read similar things of cars doing over 400k when they are in use all the time and only dying if they are left

Since nobodies asked I will... You've bought a near-new Audi and only now considering maintenance costs.

If 50k miles is the lower end then in two years you'll have some major repairs I suspect. Whether it will make 4 years hitting potentially well over 1/4million miles is anyone's guess.

I'm hoping you've taken gap insurance out also?

Can you explain gap insurance and why it is needed? I've never understood the point of it. To my mind you might as well put that money into savings instead to cover any maintenance costs.

My Golf is just under 240,000 miles with TDI engine so should be no issue if it is serviced correctly. If anything high motorway miles are what I'd definitely prefer on a car to low miles going to shops.

Steve - after 4 years I'd be a buyer at the right price, high miles don't worry me and I'm sure lots of others are the same so selling may not be an issue!

My understanding - which admittedly isn't detailed - is that if the car is written off it insures any gap in value between what the insurer pays out and the finance settlement figure.

Someone who has a smaller loan presumably doesn't bother with it.

Yes that's my understanding of it too - yet it only pays out IF you have an accident and IF the car is written off. As a Money saving site it would seem to be paying for something that isn't likely to be needed. You are also paying for cover for 3 years presumably and at the end of that if an accident happens will need to sort a replacement out yourself - so why not do that beforehand too?

The chances of writing off a brand new car must be fairly slim - I've had 2 cars written off in 25 years but it isn't hard to write off a £1000 car!

240,000 is pretty good. I really see no reason why mine shouldn't do at least as many as that if not more...

yeh am thinking 4 years then sell on. i have looked online and some are selling for 12k still but with around 150,000 miles

better open an isa or something to save for all these services

checked that site against national, kwif fit, and ats and much better value and they are all over my area too

    :)

That on-line is the protyre part.

The Winchester branch were always cheaper than everywhere I tired when called, people were traveling 100s miles and still saving on high performance tyres.
