£54 quid for an air filter!
Hope they give you a reach around.

I wish I could get a BMW air-filter fitted at that price by a BMW dealer.

Audi are sooooo cheap at £54

BMW would charge £104.04 for an air-filter change, if you just drove in off the street.

But I don't pay prices like that - as I posted earlier- my Service Inclusive deal is £410 for 2 years - as many services and service parts as needed irrespective of mileage up to 120K - bargain.
  • Just found the card and schedule given by Audi garage in Cardiff..

    First 20k service =pollen filter 329.48
2nd 40k service pollen and fuel filter 470.56
3rd service pollen Nd air filter 382.47

Obviously these will be after the 10k oil change service. And the subsequent ones will be on the 18000 miles rather than 20000 miles Mark.

This means 54000 miles per annum is 3 of those services who's I am going to hit.

well the prices i got from my local audi showroom for service are the first (oil change) £196

2nd oil and pollen filter £296

3rd oil, pollen filter and air filter £349 (roughly cant remember exactly)..

so if i am gonna hit 2 - 3 services per year plus say two sets of tyres (£500 ea?)at least (other people are saying every 10,000 miles) plus say a set of brakes or two per annum too...

    god knows..is gonna be expensive

If the engine is anything like other VW engines, you have it on the "short" servicing plan at the moment, because its "two free services" - and they MUST be done every 10,000 miles under the terms of the offer. I've the same problem - though i only do 25K per year on my golf diesel.

Once you get to the second free service you can change to long life service intervals - usually around 18K miles, which will help.

Tyres wise, you should be able to get an easy 20K from fronts and 30K from rears.

I would personally set up a spreadsheet and work out on that basis what you need to set aside each month to cover running costs. Also, budget say, £50 a month for ad hoc maintenance once the car is out of warranty.

I hope you really really wanted an A5, because it does sound like you've bought a rather expensive car thats going to depreciate heavily because of the massive miles, has high servicing costs, not high miles service plans avail and a mileage restrictive warranty. :(

Don't forget to add in a cambelt change at the end of the second year or start of third year (assuming belt not chain - I don't know the vehicle)

  • Iceweasel, that is a great deal i could do with haha.

Motor guy: yep is is on short service for the first one but then they can change to the 18k mark thereafter. i will still hit 3 services per year though.

my last big car was a mondeo 2l tdci and that ate through tyre pretty quickly. i then had an audi a3 for the last 18months and only had one whole set of tyres changed in 60k so hopefully i can get close to those figures.

the car I got from the dealership for £22,400 £8k off list and it was a pre reg so the depreciation had already hit. I was actually intending on another a3 but that would have cost more than this. plus when i am getting up at 0530 and doing those sort of miles it is nice to be sat in a decent car for the duration.

i am not looking to sell it only to use it. i will probably give it to my girlfriend when done and get another new car with less than 1000 miles again and another pre reg.

looks like i wont be servicing it at the audi garage after the free ones and it will go to any of the german car specialists or VAG ones.

there was not point me leasing as the cost would be so much and then have to go back in perfect condition , same as a pcp so buying it and using it for 4 years, paid off in 3 years it will hav e more than paid for itself even with the high servicing costs. it is just we all try to save a little?

yes definitely the right thing to HP it rather than lease or PCP it.

Running costs are maybe a bit high, but then i take it you're not doing that sort of miles for fun so no doubt have the finances to cope with it, and you may as well have the car you want if you're in it so much.

Avg mpg is 60 ( supposedly) I have got it to 50.4 at the mo.
    Tax is only £30

The new job is giving an allowance and hmrc mileage recommend actions apart from year before last haha. So it will pay for itself it is just I need to pay upfront costs. Erm not really it is a couple of car grades above me Tbh but as it will pay for itself and was cheaper than the a3 I couldn't help it ..

Since nobodies asked I will... You've bought a near-new Audi and only now considering maintenance costs.

If 50k miles is the lower end then in two years you'll have some major repairs I suspect. Whether it will make 4 years hitting potentially well over 1/4million miles is anyone's guess.

I'm hoping you've taken gap insurance out also?

Services and consumables are to be expected. I'd be checking the terms of the warranty and seeking to have servicing twice a year and make it a full service -- ie ALL filters and oil, not just pollen filter here and air filter there. Along with the full inspection of course.

Check a few Skoda garages for service prices.

if ever down the M3/A303 check micheldever tyres they do brakes as well.

Use them as a price guide for elsewhere.

For that mileage might be worth having a spare set of wheels and some winters.
