50k per annum Service and maintenance package incl tyres?

Hi All

I have just bought a new car on finance from audi (approved used). it has manufacturers warranty on it as only had 1031 miles on the clock and was a pre reg by the dealership.

I have had it for 4 weeks exactly today and have done 6500 miles already. I have two services included FOC due to taking audi finance. the first will be at 10,000 miles (eg the end of this month at this rate) the second will be at 20,000 miles which will only be a further 2 months away (at this rate).

i need a service plan and maintenance and if with tyres even better. Audi will not do a service plan for me as i quoted 50k per annum.

the car is a 63 plate a5, 2l tdi. I am used to having company cars only and this is my first ever own car. so they are usually leased and I just take them to the dealership for services and kwik fit for tyres.

any help or advice would be appreciated :)

  • Well as far as I can make out you need to get it serviced by Audi (or someone approved by them) to maintain the warranty cover.

Be aware that KwikFit will rip you off royally for tyres, and anything else they can scare you into paying for, but doing that sort of mileage I imagine you travel all over the country so one of the grown up tyre companies. ATS, National tyres or someone like that. You should be able to negotiate an account with a decent discount on list prices.

I'm just being nosy now so tell me to mind my own business if you like but how long are you planning on keeping it for?

Is it worth a service plan? They're unlikely to give anything away so just putting money aside each month might be better value for you
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

What i was thinkiing was like these warranty wise and warranty direct etc that there will be one that does servicing and maintenance?

Yeh, the Kwik fit is just who lex autolease and arnold clark use and that's been my last two vehicles.

I am hoping to pay it off in 3 years but keep it for 4.. hoping haha to be honest it will be doing these miles mainly in cruise control as I am paying for the fuel myself and although i do need to go into town centres the majority of the drives are motorway and a roads so there is no reason it shouldnt go for longer than 4 years ??

well the prices i got from my local audi showroom for service are the first (oil change) £196

2nd oil and pollen filter £296

3rd oil, pollen filter and air filter £349 (roughly cant remember exactly)..

so if i am gonna hit 2 - 3 services per year plus say two sets of tyres (£500 ea?)at least (other people are saying every 10,000 miles) plus say a set of brakes or two per annum too...

    god knows..is gonna be expensive

Are you sure your Audi needs serviced so often? My A5 "told" me when a service was due - in my case at approx. 18,000 mile intervals.

mine is telling me that. the first is non negotiable at 10,000 but I can then change it to 18000 there after.

although it will still be 2-3 services per year..i think 50k is probably a little conservative as already done 6500 in last month plus the 1031 it already had = 7500 miles in month 1

I'd be interested in knowing this too - I have an A3 and am hitting about 35k per annum.

It'll be interesting to see Audi's take on this.

I'm pretty well up on the BMW service situation.

If you buy a brand new BMW you can opt for a 5 year service deal - but it has a limit of 50K - so that's not good at all.

High mileage-eating BMWs need servicing at around every 18K

The OP has bought a used Audi (not very used admittedly) but do Audi not do a service deal for used cars?

BMW do and it costs £410 for 2 years or 120K miles.

To have a service pack including brake-discs and pads costs £1010 for the 2 years.

I wouldn't go for the higher priced deal as a car doing that kind of mileage is not going to be so hard on brakes as many folks think.

I don't know of any special tyre deals for private motorists. When I was responsible for the needs of a mixed fleet of 6 vehicles we had a deal with ATS which gave 20% off - but was still dearer than what you could get on a one-off basis with Camskill for example.

I think the OP will very rapidly realize that the world of lease cars is very different from owning your own car and paying everything your self.

thats a lot of mile. how much of that is the new car honeymoon?

When i got my first car I'd use any excuse to go out for a drive. "oh no milk in the fridge, lets drive to tescos to get a litre"

The Audi is a bad idea as far as warranty goes.

Unlimited miles for first two years and then reverts to 60k limit for third year.

I had quotes for service plans before and they are little different to the actual cost of the service.

You will need 3 maybe 4 services a year.

Probably one set of tyres if you rotate every 10k, i don't think your car has different tyre sizes front to back.

You can also save substantial amounts by getting brakes done outside the Audi network using quality parts from Euro or similar. Pagid are OE spec for example.

You should be able to find a good VW specialist to do the brake work.

I would suspect your vehicles resale value will be improved with a full Audi history as far as servicing goes.

I wouldn't expect who did the brake work will make any difference. It certainly didn't when i bought my XJ.

But without a full main dealer service history from Jaguar i wouldn't have bothered.
