Had a call today after I sent them an email. I'm on the old essentials unlimited broadband without TV package, paid line rental upfront.

Offered a £2 a month discount for 12 months to compensate for the price increase - so £1 off after the price increase. But that still works out more expensive than moving to sky (already have TV with them) as I can get line rental and broadband for £10.82 a month after £100 quidco PLUS £25 M&S vouchers. Are my sums right? Also I'm sure sky were doing £100 quidco and £100 M&S a bit ago...

Yes, Sky were offering £100 quidco and £100 M&S, but now it is only £25 (but they give you half price line or broadband, or something like that for 6 months).

Tell TT you're off to Sky (TT know exactly what deals you can get from Sky, incl. quidco) and ask them to match their offer incl. quidco. Alternatively they can offer you a £50 credit. See which one works out better.

  • I have had the Talk Talk Phone,Broadband and TV package since November and have nothing but problems.
I had yet another engineer booked for this week due to an issue with the tv box.
Thanks to OFCOM and their new rules on being able to leave a broadband provider because of price rises I have cancelled Talk Talk with no penetly fees.
They may be cheap but in my opinon it just wasnt worth it!

I did, but they just weren't interested, only offering me a £2/month discount. Maybe I should try again...

I've been without a landline telephone now for 5 weeks and it has been utterly fantastic. No more cold calls, no more line rental for something I never actually made calls on in the first place. As I mentioned in an earlier post, now using MiFi and it is exactly what I need, just broadband and completely portable, my own locked down wi-fi hotspot. Ok, so it isn't unlimited, 10GB per month for £15, but it is now working out cheaper than what I had to fork out for before.

£180 a year might not seem good value to some, but for me, worth every penny and the mobile broadband I am on is faster than the old landline broadband too and soon to go 4G. As fiber optic won't be an option where I live for several years to come yet, leaving TalkTalk was the best decision I made. I'll never have a landline broadband package at home again.

I am thinking along the same lines as you and wonder if you could tell me what your experience has been with the range of the hotspot throughout the house.
Also what actual connection speed do you get.... I know this will vary with supplier etc.
Which supplier are you with for MIFI.
Would appreciate any help on this.

It's with Three UK. I have a main comms mast just a mile line of sight from my house, so reception for me is brilliant. Average speed, 12 mbps according to the various speed tests I've done and that is on 3G. Reception is reliable throughout my house, but it is a new build, so no thick walls.

I bought my Huawei E5756 outright initially and it came with just 1GB of data, but it was enough to convince me that I'd done the right thing. My landline broadband speed with TalkTalk barely made 2.5mbps, so the improvement I now have in speed alone is excellent.

I would point out, this option might not be for you if you download a lot of movies etc. The 10GB monthly allowance is spot on for me and I love its portability, brilliant when I go away at weekends etc.

I love it when AOL put there prices up they do it about every 6 months, This means i can get out of my 12 month contract and call them for a new deal. I called today and they offered me the same packaged for another 12 months with 3 months free and a new router. My plan is going up from £16.90 to £18.05 a month. That is £13.80 a year extra but with my 3 months free i have saved £54.15 (making £40.35 extra savings for a service i use). plus i have another router to go with the other 3, The best thing is its all above board. It seems i only ever seem to pay for about 6 months of the year with there small line rental increases.

  • How is it legal once you have signed up to a 18 month contract that they can increase prices. Surely a contracts a contract.
