Great! another rise in basic cost of living expenses. Unless you are wealthy or on the fiddle you get screwed from all sides.

I've just gone from a combination of BT and AOL (my broadband was £15.99 a month with AOL) to TalkTalk at a rate of £2.50 a month for unlimited broadband.


The new rate will be £3.50. So I don't consider that I'm getting "screwed from all sides". In fact, I'm still very happy with the rate, even though it's a 40% increase.

I'm not with TT now but I'd be pretty miffed to be paying extra for my phone because they've increased the number of TV channels!

Thankfully, as from two weeks ago, I am no longer with TalkTalk. Finally, after years and years, I've ditched the landline for good as for me, it was nothing than a complete waste of money, a cash cow on line rental and ultra slow broadband speeds to boot. And really, what is this line rental charge all about? It just keeps increasing.

It'll take years before the powers that be get fibre optic to my area. I've now gone MiFi, straight off a communications mast just a mile line of sight from my house. Instantaneously, broadband speeds four times faster than the old landline and soon to go 4G. I'm paying £15 a month for 10gb, which is ample for my household as we don't download loads of films or need the extra TV channels. Freesat/Freeview provides ample enough entertainment in our household.

Best part of not having the landline though, is absolutely no more cold calling - utterly brilliant! and of course, no more line rental.

phew! now i feel relieved. was going to go with talk talk a while back as their deal was the best in the market.
but just as i was they introduced an admin charge.

so haggled with plusnet who i was already with and they actually beat talk talks deal.

now with these hikes im glad i stayed clear of talk talk!

Anyone know how this affects those who have already paid a year's line rental in advance? Can we get remaining months of this refunded if we decide to switch because of the increase in broadband price and call charges?

And I was just about to switch from BT to TalkTalk because their deals looked so good.:sad:

I could still save money compared with BT, but I would be lumbered with TalkTalk's crummy YouView box that can't record anything. I was looking at their Plus TV package with the proper box that can record, but the price of that seems to have gone up the most.

BT don't seem even remotely interested in haggling this year. In the past two years, I've been offered a £6/month discount to stay with BT. I've been offered absolutely nothing this year.:mad:

Yes you can, they will refund the rest of your 12 months line rental. I left them last year when they last increased prices and got 8 months rental back.

The website shows line rental for 12 months at a cost of £126 so if I get this as part of a new order, am I protected against the line rental price increase?
