I phoned them up, asked what dates they had, the closest they had was about a month later, so provisionally booked it over the phone, as there was no need to wait any longer. Neither of us like a big fuss, so here was no need to wait and just stress ourselves out about it for months on end.
We then went up to Gretna (live in Cumbria, so it's not far) and went to the Smiths Hotel (which own the Blacksmiths shop too) and spoke to a wedding co-ordinator and had a tour round the Blacksmiths Wedding rooms, and it was sorted in less than an hour....she couldn't get over how laid back we were about it! I can't be on with all this bridezilla stressing when there's no need!
We chose what time we wanted to get married at, booked a photographer through them, and which room we wanted etc, and that was it all sorted, apart from sorting out the paperwork, which was simple enough.
As there was only us and our parents, we chose the smallest room (which is only tiny btw!), but on the day, as there was no other weddings on at our time, they let us chose any room we wanted, so we chose the Original room, which was really lovely of them, and I loved feeling that I was apart of history, as that's where it all began hundreds of years ago! I'm glad actually, because as I say, the other room was really small.
After the ceremony and photos, we then walked back to the Smiths Hotel for a meal (in a seperate area) and it was a lovely day!
My parents and I stayed overnight at he Smiths hotel the night before, and my DH drove up on the day with his Mam. I arranged for a makeup artist and hairdresser to come to the room for my Mam and I.
Sorry I've rambled on a bit! I never thought I was a weddingy person, but I actually enjoyed planning it, and wearing a dress (again not me!). If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a message.
you haven't rambled. You have been a great help. I have no doubt i will message you. Thanks ever so much0 -

They must have planned it in advance.0 -
ahhhhhhh! Have told my dad and stepmum. Now my dad is trying to dictate where i should have it and what bl**dy dates are good for them!
this was meant to be the stress free way!0 -
^^ It is stress free...
Set the date/time/location, then let everyone know. If they cant make it, then thats just tough.
Some people will just have to move stuff in there calander, or just not attend at all.
All that matters is that your both there...
Anyhow, if you wanted to ask him... i would have said... "How does Mr & Mrs Barahs sound?"

Do not let anyone dictate what you should do.
Stick to your guns.

I totally understand what you mean!! I was adamant I was never going through another wedding!! But when the desire to commit to my lovely chap overcame my dread of a wedding, I had the exact same problem. How to change getting married as a subject he teased me with to one which we actually planned to do!!
I'm so very MSE that it was a "last minute" Gretna Green deal on this very forum which made the discussion a reality.
I just text him with a couple of dates and he chose one, simples!!
Another big recommendation here for Smiths at Gretna Green, it was so simple, stress free and generally wonderful. They organise ceremony, photographer, food, cake, drinks, everything. We just used the minister, room decorating firm, hairdresser etc that they recommended. They all work together so frequently the whole business was just seamless and ran like clockwork.
After being the one who really didn't want a wedding, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
Just do it, you won't regret it! Good Luck to you!0 -
its the dumb stuff... After being single more or less for 12 years letting someone else fix the washer or hoover feels strange.
yep i know its dumb.0
