absolutely! It feels so right to tell him that. We are just totally in sync with each other

I can't see the problem - if you want to spend the rest of your life with him - just do it - with just the people who care about you, and about whom you care! Have a lovely little ceremony - then come back announce that you've done it - and have a celebratory party for your friends.

    I'd just tell him...

Or get a metric tonne of wedding magazines, spend your time constantly reading them and loudly declare, "This flower arrangement would be beautiful FOR OUR WEDDING wouldn't it, darling?"

What part of your independence do you think you'll be giving up when you get married?

its the dumb stuff... After being single more or less for 12 years letting someone else fix the washer or hoover feels strange.
    yep i know its dumb.

because l feel stupid at 43 wanting to do it. I'd like it to be special for us without the fuss. And due to family hassles it would only be us,my son,his son (27) and my dad and step mum.
tempted to just say gretna green!!!!

That's what we did! Parents only, no siblings or other guests. The staff at the Old Blacksmiths Shop were fantastic, so friendly and helpful.

On the day we went to have a look around, there were a few couples getting married, and at least two of the couples looked to be in their 40's. I wouldn't worry about it, they have people of all ages getting married there.
  • Life is short... Too short to faff about dropping hints ..just tell him you are now ready !

    still feel stupid though

so why not? say Gretna Green? Its in the uk and you could book hotel/B+B rooms and all have a lovely stay. wouldn't exactly break the bank if there are only six of you. and just think of the fun you would have telling people 'WE ran off to Gretna Green to get married.
  • Being married doesn't mean you can't fix your own washing machine!! It just means there's someone there to make a cup of tea for you when you're finished.

Independence is fine - but there's a lot to be said for being part of a team too.

As the old saying goes - don't marry the person you can live with, marry the person you can't live without. If that's true for you, then go for it.
