I wouldn't even think about committing the rest of my life to someone, who I felt I had to make subtle suggestions to about being serious over marrying them. If you love a man and feel totally confidant he knows this and feels exactly the same way about you there is no need or room for any doubt. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

its the dumb stuff... After being single more or less for 12 years letting someone else fix the washer or hoover feels strange.
yep i know its dumb.
It's not dumb at all. I'm still bemused by my boyfriend happily scrambling up into the loft for me as soon as I mention something's up there.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

its only because i have over the past 4 years been so anti marriage that i feel i should be subtle so as to not give him a heart attack!!!! I've realised that we are a "good fit". We've even said we will just grow old together. On another note I'm 7 weeks into 12 of having my arm in plaster after hand surgery and he's going above and beyond to make sure I'm comfortable! For instance... "do you need your pits shaving"?

I've been married for 25 years and it's still me that fixes the washing machine and hoover. And the car. I wouldn't let my OH within a mile of a screwdriver tbh, he's not mechanically minded!Val.0 -

I'm as equally capable as him. But i think he sees it as saving me a job. Whereas after years of being on my own i get a tad frustrated. I just wander off and make tea these days instead of seething (which admittedly i used to) i suppose he's being " manly and protective" ha ha
does that show I'm all grown up and ready to settle down???
p.s.
i got brave this morning and text him saying "how about Gretna green"? My reply was "whatever makes you happy"
i want a sweet pea bouquet0 -
Once we'd decided on Gretna,Green, my husband said 'right, I'm leaving the planning to you, just tell me what date you booked and I'll turn up!' :rotfl: So I did.
He did get a lot more involved with the planning after that though lol!

Very!I phoned them up, asked what dates they had, the closest they had was about a month later, so provisionally booked it over the phone, as there was no need to wait any longer. Neither of us like a big fuss, so here was no need to wait and just stress ourselves out about it for months on end.
We then went up to Gretna (live in Cumbria, so it's not far) and went to the Smiths Hotel (which own the Blacksmiths shop too) and spoke to a wedding co-ordinator and had a tour round the Blacksmiths Wedding rooms, and it was sorted in less than an hour....she couldn't get over how laid back we were about it! I can't be on with all this bridezilla stressing when there's no need!
We chose what time we wanted to get married at, booked a photographer through them, and which room we wanted etc, and that was it all sorted, apart from sorting out the paperwork, which was simple enough.
As there was only us and our parents, we chose the smallest room (which is only tiny btw!), but on the day, as there was no other weddings on at our time, they let us chose any room we wanted, so we chose the Original room, which was really lovely of them, and I loved feeling that I was apart of history, as that's where it all began hundreds of years ago! I'm glad actually, because as I say, the other room was really small.
After the ceremony and photos, we then walked back to the Smiths Hotel for a meal (in a seperate area) and it was a lovely day!
My parents and I stayed overnight at he Smiths hotel the night before, and my DH drove up on the day with his Mam. I arranged for a makeup artist and hairdresser to come to the room for my Mam and I.
Sorry I've rambled on a bit! I never thought I was a weddingy person, but I actually enjoyed planning it, and wearing a dress (again not me!). If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a message.0 -
