Does anyone know how a disputed/on hold account that passes the deferement deadline will be handled? I assume the deferement deadline gets extended? Or when the accounts re-activated can they then claim the deferement deadline has passsed? I expect they will if they can...

i refer you to what i was told...but those deadlines are approaching, so we will know for sure then. But Erudi's individual files on us, well in my case, havent been updated to allow for that, with my original deferment deadline still in place, regardless of being told it is on hold in a letter they sent. I was told i had a complaint in the works but that the original deadline wouldnt change...and indeed the date she read me out on her computer confirmed that!
  • Reading through this thread inspires to confidence in Erudio whatsover:(

But, I think it's worth pointing out that some of the 'additional' info requested discussed on here which Erudio have requested was also requested by SLC on the deferment forms i.e:
bank details - you were asked to send new details if these changed.
phone numbers - I have a copy of SLC deferment form from 2007 and these were requested.
NI number - you weren't asked to write this on your deferment form but it is printed on payslips (and I think proof of benefits) so they had access to this for most people.
Proof of unearned income such as interest on savings was requested.

You weren't however asked if you were a home owner/tenant and would be interested to know of there's any legal requirement to answer this in order to process deferment?

I don't want to panic about Erudio but will be keeping copies of all correspondance sent to them and sending by recorded delivery and would advise others to do the same.
  • Also - with regards to phone numbers...I provide 'untrustworthy' companies such as Erudio with only the phone number for my spare/emergency mobile so they can leave a message but my main number remains private.

I just spent ages waiting on the phone to speak to Erudio. The time kept on hold probably makes them a nice amount already. Guy on the phone said the loan isn't showing as deferred but that's "a common problem" and I can get my money back from my bank. Meanwhile he'll do things at his end to get the loan deferment details from SLC and he'll write out to confirm. So on the face of it all should be okay if he's telling the truth. Of course I half expect that when I claim money back from the bank Erudio will deny knowledge of this conversation and claim I'm breaking t&c's or something.
  • My student loans are now with Erudio and I have had the first letter back to say my three pay slips are not enough evidence, although this has been sufficient for SLC for the last fifteen years! So I have resent them, with last years P60, by registered post, guaranteed to be delivered tomorrow! I have sealed the envelope with Sellotape so they cannot say some documents have been lost! I have also emailed them to advise them this evidence is on the way and so far the email has not been returned to my inbox! It was somewhat frustrating that the letter they sent me regarding insufficient evidence took ten days to reach me, therefore moving ever closer to the end of the current period of deferment! I shall now wait with bated breath to see if they acknowledge that I have sent sufficient info before they try taking money from my account! Has anybody actually had a successful deferment from Erudio yet!? Let's hope some of us are soon successful!
  • Hi

I too received my deferment form from erudio last month and immediately suspected that deferring my loans wasn't going to be as simple as it used to be.

I noticed at the last minute that it said you had to send your p60 which I did not have at the time. I rang and asked why they needed it and was told that the deferment application is based on the last 12 months so 3 payslips is no longer sufficient - changing the terms and conditions already! I sent my form off with payslips and a note to say that my p60 would have to follow as I don't have it yet but as my most recent payslip shows what I earned in the last 11 months I don't see why they also need p60!

A month after sending it off I have heard nothing so rang them. I was told they had a backlog and it hadn't been looked at. I told them SLC used to confirm within about a week but of course they weren't interested. I got the impression that if the deferment deadline passes while they are working through the backlog they will be taking the first repayment from me even though the delay is down to them! Not impressed!

tweet/contact simon read at the independent and paul lewis at the bbc with what you have been told because that is something that'll effect thousands of us. They cant take cash just because they havent hired enough staff, that is punishing us, which The Department of BIS promised would not happen. You have to try and get the info outside of the forums if possible to raise awareness.
  • I'm going to ring them again later in the week and see what they say, hopefully they will just extend the deadlines if they pass due to their delay

in the letter i got after i complained, to acknowledge i had complained, it said that all collection activity will be stopped until the complaint is answered. I called them and the deferment date on my file hadnt been stopped or noted as stopped pending complaint or anything like that. In fact, the operator hadnt been told any such thing other than the deferment date never gets changed. They have a time bomb on their hands...but luckily i have evidence from them if they do try to take a DD payment...because they say the deferment process can take upto 28 days or so, so if they havent processed forms by then, i am sure they will take a DD payment.
Plus, has anyone had a letter pre-DD being taken saying it will be taken and the amount. That is law i think and in the DD mandate. I here many have had DD being taken but is everyones a breach of the DD mandate and how are they compensating for their clear breaking of the rules. I saw the story in the independent saw a £100 payment, surely we should all be pushing for that if they do breach the DD mandate...not to forget taking DD payments because they cant process the deferments quickly enough.
