At least they have called off other sales for now - how long for is anyone's guess!

This is great news, thanks so much for sharing:)

Made me wonder if it was related to the BIS Select Committee Enquiry into Student Loans, sure enough the report was made available to witnesses and the press today:

http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/business-innovation-and-skills/inquiries/parliament-2010/student-loans/

I read the evidence, would like to see the report, but clearly they reached the sane conclusion that the sale of student loans to the private sector is unsustainable in the longer term. The sell off to Erudio was also covered in the enquiry, would hope the committee commented on that too in the report (I emailed the committee clerk, asked him to let the committee members know exactly what Erudio were up to).

This is the kind of news that should lift our spirits, as Erudio/Capita/Arrow Global will be well !!!!ed off about it! :D

Let me clarify: I'd never heard of this lot until their first letter demanding payment for "arrears" some weeks ago. I replied to that with a, "Who are you, and what *are* you talking about?". Nothing until this morning, when they're demanding more money. I've contacted appropriate legal organisations, and reported Erudio for malpractise. I've responded to Erudio appropriately.
I won't be completing any forms that change my original contract. They won't be getting any payments, because I don't have an income. If this is the best advice you're offering, I'll pass for now. The UK Legal system offers perfectly valid options for dealing with scammers like this lot. I'll take those options.
Each to their own, I've based my own approach on much of what's been reported on here and the Mumsnet thread, the whole point of a forum is to share experiences, would be a shame to ignore when people have gone to the effort of sharing them and it makes sense to follow the advice.

The options available under the UK legal system are still available to me, I just won't be banging my head against the brick wall that is Erudio in the process :)

I personally think a court would consider it unreasonable that you didn't complete the form, when you're free to amend/delete/omit anything you're not happy with, something that the OFT (and the courts?) considers acceptable in contract law. Erudio will insist the signed form's necessary for their own administrative purposes - sign the form, delete what you don't agree to, take a copy, get deferment and then fight and use the UK legal system to your benefit. That approach is hassle enough, why give yourself the extra stress of refused deferment, claims of arrears/repayments, precious time spent dealing with a DCA that will go out of it's way to make every step difficult? No thanks!

Yeah it lifts my spirits - I am laughing so hard! Poor them. Lol
But most of the ridiculous (unbelievable) stuff that had gone on, you have to laugh at it or they'd break you. No way - I will defer (if eligible) as I am allowed to do for as long as is applicable and if they don't like it - tough! They can be as difficult as they like to me, as I plan on doing it right back if they do - I don't work so have plenty of time to write endless complaints and deal with legal issues. I already have another complaint reaching another deadline ready for the FOS!
Stay strong everyone x

You have missed the point entirely. Never mind.

jammie1, we shouldn't trust anything Erudio tells us, if you're sure your account hasn't been in arrears previously, then this sounds like a new Erudio tactic?

£1,115 for 2 months' worth of interest and charges seems excessive (depends on the charges I suppose). Do you have evidence of deferment between May 2011 and Feb 2014 when Erudio claim there were arrears? If not, the SLC should be able to give you a copy of their deferment acceptance, Erudio shouldn't claim or take any payments if you have proof of deferment.

Also, I'm sure the SLC dealt with these refunds before the loans transferred, might be worth checking that with the SLC too? If Erudio are using this situation to try and extort money out of genuine deferrers, that has to be illegal?!

Anna, it's not 2 months of interest, it's 3 years! I think that what Erudio is saying is that in 2011 the account was in arrears and had a charge and interest wrongly added, and that has then compounded over the 3 years from the date of the arrears without being rectified. The £1115 has been deducted from his overall balance, as it should never have accrued. If it's the same as my situation yesterday, they aren't asking for any money, they are simply saying what has happened and why they have modified his balance. Of course, if it was in arrears in 2011 and he was never notified then that's a different matter.

The Deferment Threshold from September 2014 might go down from £28,775 to around £27,000 (might be as low as £26,700) down to what it was five years ago.
How can we plan our finances properly when we have little idea from year to year whether we have to pay back some of our loan or not.
If the Threshold does go down then it’s down to Bankers’ bonuses and the way the Government does the calculations (they are done by the Government not the SLC).
How unfair is that.

I have just contacted Erudio and they inform me that the income threshold ( which is currently £2398 gross p/m), will remain in place next year as well, and for the duration of the loan in my case, which is unfortunate for me, as I`m £8 p/m over the limit with my recent, inflation -related pay rise .
• Does anyone know the email address for chasing up deferments?

Does anyone know the email address for chasing up deferments?
There's a specific deferment email address mentioned in the application pack: Deferment@ErudioStudentLoans.co.uk

But I got nothing more than an acknowledgment from them, had more luck when chasing up with:

customerservice@erudiostudentloans.co.uk

You could also copy in Erudio's Director:

MFiler@WilmingtonTrust.comMFiler@WilmingtonTrust.com

I mostly got deferment sorted by copying in Mr Filer, not him personally but a member of staff from the Capita office responding on his behalf.
