Stopped Smoking

            Have just spotted this thread.
Well done on all the success stories.
Last weekend I caught a bad dose of flu and haven't smoked since then. Have been smoke free for one week today!
As I didn't want to go near a cigarette early on, it has been quite easy up to now not wanting a cigarette. However, I am thankfully beginning to feel a little better, and - in a week moment - don't want to start smoking again.
Does anyone have any hints of tips please to keep me in a positive frame of mind? I have some Sky Cigs, but not tried them.
Haven't been a heavy smoker in the past - smoking between 8 to 10 cigarettes a day.
Thanks for any help.
really the sky e-cigs are pants...you can try them but their battery isn't fab....
There's an e-cigarette thread on here somewhere https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1243625 which has links to helpful info forums et al but if a sky e-cig is all you need fair enough. I know e-cigs are being pushed at chemist counters etc but there's really a lot better (and cheaper!!!) e-cigs you can get than what's at the chemist/corner shop.
However if you're a purist and want to go cold turkey/NRT that's up to you. I personally wouldn't have succeeded that way but it's upto you
Hope that helps (hugs)

            Thanks for your post erme.
Still going strong, must be almost 6 weeks now since I last had a cigarette. Still have 4 unopened packets of John Players, plus a pack which is three quarters full, and a docker ..... All untouched, and now as a non-smoker (I hope!) wondering what to do with them.
After this while, I don't think I am still craving nicotine, but miss 'the habit'. Tried SkyCigs, but not impressed, will look at the e-cig threads but so far, so good ...0 -
If you are not craving nicotine or 'smoke' then e-cigs may not be the way forward.
Maybe worth trying a 'plastic cig' from the chemist/cheap drug store - think they are about £2 - just to get you the hand to mouth or a straw (note straws are probably cheaper)
If you want to get no nicotine you can try no nic e-liquids or make your own
There's loads of options
And I wish you all the best (hugs)

Im still going strong, and its nearly 6 weeks for me. I was using the Nicoretter puffer, but just a few times a day, I suddenly realised that the puffer I was using was about 3 days old and I wasn't getting anything out of it at all apart from the ;feel' of a ciggie. Like you. I suddenly realised I was not craving nicotine, but just stuck in the habit. The one I have today is 6 days old.... ha ha. I do consider my self a non smoker now.
It was great at the week end, we went away on a coach holiday, there was none of this desperately having a last gasp before getting on the coach, gasping for a fag after 2 hours on the coach, and having to leave the hotel room every hour or so to have one..... I don't miss that bit at all xmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

            Another protip is these badboys:

Friend of mine who was a devoted chainsmoker quit cold turkey with these. They ate them by the bucketload and they swore by them. You'll always have minty fresh breath too! :T0 -
Hi mcKneff, thanks for your comments.
Like you say, it's the habit of smoking rather than smoking itself which I miss slightly. I have an occasional drag of an e-cig, but it feels like I am breathing in fresh air.
Not sure whether I am yet brave enough to consider myself a non-smoker, although feeling 'slightly' confident, it is great when you don't need to consider where you're going and what opportunities there will be to smoke.
Especially hotels, smokers are definitely considered to be second-class citizens!
Thanks pandilex, will buy a supply of Tic Tacs!0 -

You'll also have no teeth left to worry about! Each one of these has a spoon full of sugar in it and sucking on mints is an ace way of getting tooth decay.
Much better to chew sugar free chewing gum (even better if has xylitol) which will stimulate saliva flow and wont cause decay0 -
Airways chewing gum for me, only half a one at a time. They can blow your socks off.
And an empty Nicorette inhaler.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I use the tins of mints (altoids I believe) or similar for places I can't use my e-cig. works for me

So it's an option
the tic tacs are way to easy to get through a load:dance:

Bumping this up again. I found that the inhaler didn't seem to be working for me, I ended up really looking forward to the next time I could have a 'fix' and was craving nicotine more or less all the time. I couldn't see a time when I was a non smoker, cos I didn't know how to get off the inhaler lol.
I decided to go for the patches, because I hadn't been 'smoking' for 7 weeks, I decided to go for the 10mg patch and this is helping enormously, I can see an 'end' to it. A definite line. The only trouble I can see is how do I get off the 10mg slowly, do you put half a patch on, or do you make 1 patch last 2 days.... has anyone else come across this.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
