Couldn't read and run! Congratulations and good luck!
I stopped mid January, and never thought I would last this long, this has been my most successful quit attempt so far.
My tip? Instead of reminding yourself of ugly deseases/money spent etc if you're tempted (and let's face it, that just makes you want to smoke more) I keep telling myself that if I have a cigarette I'll have to start this whole process again! for some reason that's keeping me on the straight and narrow! I recommend Allan Carr and those tablets you get off the doctors if you need them too.0 -
Well done lillie_put. Keep it up. Just remeber it takes around 48 hours for the nicotine to leave your body. The other cravings come from associated habits like having a fag after a meal, after or with a cuppa, with a drink, cos you're bored. Keep a sharp lookout for these habits and think that each day is a bonus but if you start again, all those hours you will have wasted. I've been stopped around 7 years. You'll be amazed what you can do and how much you save. Don't get sucked in with the I'I'll put on weight' excuse, some exercise will take care of that. Good luck and again, well done.

Nice one Lilli-Put - I hope you're doing okay. :T
The first few days and weeks are the hardest but gradually you will start to think about it less and less and before you know it, days will become weeks and weeks become months. I have lost track now of when I gave up; I think it must be just a bit over three years and was the best thing I ever did for myself.
Be strong and treat yourself to something nice with the money you have saved; soon enough you'll forget you ever smoked.Mortgage

I gave up on duty frees when serving in Germany 40 years ago. It took me about three months before I would not have a smoke even when in my cups. Promised myself a new sheepskin coat on the money I saved. Bought a house instead. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

It starts getting easier after about 15-16 days as there is no more withdrawal. All that is left is habit and addiction.
Good luck with it. I quit successfully in 2008 having quit unsuccessfully about 100 times previously (literally). You'll get your fitness and sense of smell back. Your sense of taste comes back shortly after that. You'll look better and you reduce your chances of dying in horrible pain.
Well done you.:j:j:j0 -

Well done on taking the first step, i've been quit for a year last month and it's the best thing i did, i set up a bank transfer to our daughters savings account for £10 per week and a sub to a beauty box in return for not touching the cigs, it took about 8 months for my cravings to go but now i feel quite sick when i smell cigs, it'll get easier just keep busy when they cravings take over x0

Congratulations.
Have you gone cold turkey? If so, very well done!
I stopped on New Year's Day but I am using an e-cig. I have reduced the nicotine and hopefully will wean myself off them too in time.0 -
Congrats!

It's been 4 years, 26 days, 7 hours and 41 minutes since I gave up! :rotfl: I have an app on my iPhone which tells me this data, along with how much I've saved, and lots of other interesting facts and figures....and it was with the help of that app that I finally quit. It's because I'm so damn competitive that it worked, just seeing the days and the savings rack up daily and the motivational messages really helped.
Good luck, you can do it!0
