I am trying, some would say I am really trying lol.. I want a cigarette, but the little swines will not get better of me. It is strange, I really wasn't thinking of myself.,. I was struggling in the ambulance, the blue lights were on and my husband was so far away from me that he could only touch me with his fingertips, but I saw the fright in his face, while he saw me struggling to breathe, all I could think of was him and my family, I will never touch another cigarette, for their sake for as long as I live. xx

That sounds like my Mam when she had her first heart attack (she's had two :( ) and she was in the ambulance leaving the local hospital to go to Middlesborough and they put the blue lights on to get through the busy traffic, she was more worried about us, thinking that we'd be panicking that she was on her way out!

My Mam has never touched a cigarette in her whole life, and I felt so guilty for not stopping straight away after she was ill, but I finally managed it a few months later.

Just been reading your thread about your heart attack, and although it's not a laughing matter, I've got to admit, it gave me the giggles a couple of times....ie, the Michael Jackson joke, and the trouble passing water/Tyne Bridge one amused me! :rotfl:

Keep up the good work! How many did you smoke a day out of interest?
  • @libra10, I found the 'My last Cigarette' app to be invaluable. It has facts and figures and photos (of diseases that could happen to smokers) daily which motivate you and help to strengthen your resolve in why your gave up in the first place. It tells you how much you've saved, and so much more, and if you like social media (Facebook, Twitter) then you can share your results on there too.

Hi all, sorry to jump in mid-thread but just wanted to say THANK YOU for recommending that app. I quit smoking 43 days ago and have saved £361 already. I worked out that in my lifetime so far smoking has cost me c£65,300 and if I smoke for the rest of my life (assume another 25 years) it will cost c£76,600. Hair-raising figures aren't they! When the cravings strike I'm going to plan what I can do with that c£76k instead :)

You're welcome. :) I found that it worked for me when nothing else did....maybe because I'm so competitive, that seeing the days quit and money saved racking up helped, and being stubborn too, I wasn't going to give in! :rotfl:

Well done on giving up for 43 days so far! :T Keep up the good work! Just think what you could spend all that money on! :D
  • Hi all
Appologies for muscling in on the thread only I have been trying to stop smoking on and off for ages.

Can I ask what app it is you are talking about and have you gone cold turkey.

Please send me some of your willpower that you all have. I cant seem to find mine.

I started using patches which I find do help and even saved the money I would have spent on fags. (2 days ) So why did I give in again.

I think its fear of trying that stops me.:(

Please Help a sad and weak smoker

The app is called My Last Cigarette, and yes, me personally I went cold turkey, no patches, no fake cigarettes or anything. I'd tried and failed so many times before, so I was surprised when I managed to go cold turkey lol!

Good Luck, I'm sure you'll get there in the end! :)

I've gone 'cold turkey'. Early days for me yet at just 2 weeks non smoking.

I caught quite a severe chest infection and couldn't have smoked if I had wanted to. Am finding not smoking slightly easier by the day. Have some Sky Cigs, but not used yet.

    Good luck
  • Thank you for you replies and well done to you all for staying smoke free.

I just need a huge kick up the backside and get on with it. My brain plays little tricks on me and quietly says throughout the day "this is the time you have a cigarette" or "you know you want one, go on, one wont hurt"

I'm sure you all know the scenarios otherwise you wouldn't be on here lol.

I have looked at apps and have just registered for 'smokefree NHS'

I am on my own personal Debt free journey and will use this as an incentive to keep strong.

    Will keep you posted.
Wish me luck and well done all.

I just caught up with this thread again, Im still on the straight and narriw and cig free lol. I know what you mean about your mum and the blue lights and siren, it was very surreal, and I heard them too, then realised that they were for me. And I too worried more about my family than myself,. I will have my husbands terriefied face in my head till the day I pop me clogs. x Its my Geordie sense of humour that kept me going through out lol.
    I smoked about 20 a day x

So glad you are on the road to recovery and staying off the cigs.
I am definitely going to take this attempt seriously before I get a wake up call like you did.

It was a blood clot that had formed in my artery because some cholstrol had broken off or something like that. Certianly a wake up call. I was totally terrified, I couldn't speak or breathe. Hubby just rang 999, Fast responder was with me within 5, then paramedics another 5, and then ambulance which took nearly an hour to get to a hospital that could operate. blue lights too, very surreal. All down to smoking. think on that when youre dithering over a fag, really good luck to you....
