            Well done from me too.
I've stopped for 2 years 1 month, 1 week, 4 days and 32 minutes but who's counting? I've saved nearly £8.5k on my heavy consumption. All thanks to a book by Alan Carr with a little bit of willpower from me too. Remember, you quit smoking not gave up. There is life without ciggies. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

            Have just spotted this thread.
Well done on all the success stories.
Last weekend I caught a bad dose of flu and haven't smoked since then. Have been smoke free for one week today!
As I didn't want to go near a cigarette early on, it has been quite easy up to now not wanting a cigarette. However, I am thankfully beginning to feel a little better, and - in a week moment - don't want to start smoking again.
Does anyone have any hints of tips please to keep me in a positive frame of mind? I have some Sky Cigs, but not tried them.
Haven't been a heavy smoker in the past - smoking between 8 to 10 cigarettes a day.
Thanks for any help.0 -
Put the money you would spend on cigs into a savings account. I gave up three years ago and put £40 a week (average £6 packet over 7 days). That was really the only incentive I needed to never smoke again.
I saw the savings build up and thought that's money I'd wasted in the past. I don't save as much now, living costs have gone up, but I still put some money into savings each week. Its paid for holidays, day trips and other things which is all from giving up.0 -
            Thanks for your comments crumblepie.
I had been smoking about 3 to 4 packets a week, each costing around £7 to £8. You can see how the money would build up.
Still not being tempted to smoke and hoping that I can keep up the momentum.0 -
I had my last cigarette at around 11.30 last Sunday night, this was about 8 hours before I had the most horrendous chest pains, fast responders at my door, paramedics in my bedroom, ambulance peeps carrying me out of the door and travelling hell for leather to Leeds General infirmary for a heart operation.
I have smoked for around 50 years and I will never, ever smoke again. I put myself in that position, only myself to blame.
Well Done to anyone who gives up, it took a near death experience for me to do it. xxmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

OMG McKneff  I hope you're well and truely on the road to recovery now, that must have been so scary.
Yes it might have taken a near death experience for you to give up, but at least you finally have. I've known people to carry on even after such events.
@libra10, I found the 'My last Cigarette' app to be invaluable. It has facts and figures and photos (of diseases that could happen to smokers) daily which motivate you and help to strengthen your resolve in why your gave up in the first place. It tells you how much you've saved, and so much more, and if you like social media (Facebook, Twitter) then you can share your results on there too.0 -
            Thanks georgiegirl
Will check out the app, sounds just what I need.0 -

I am trying, some would say I am really trying lol.. I want a cigarette, but the little swines will not get better of me. It is strange, I really wasn't thinking of myself.,. I was struggling in the ambulance, the blue lights were on and my husband was so far away from me that he could only touch me with his fingertips, but I saw the fright in his face, while he saw me struggling to breathe, all I could think of was him and my family, I will never touch another cigarette, for their sake for as long as I live. xxmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
