I just caught up with this thread again, Im still on the straight and narriw and cig free lol. I know what you mean about your mum and the blue lights and siren, it was very surreal, and I heard them too, then realised that they were for me. And I too worried more about my family than myself,. I will have my husbands terriefied face in my head till the day I pop me clogs. x Its my Geordie sense of humour that kept me going through out lol.
I smoked about 20 a day x
We're on the other side of the country (Cumbria), and a lot of people seem to always think that I'm from Newcastle too, that I have a slight Geordie twang! I guess it's that Northern sense of humour that gets us through things lol!
Well Done for still being cig free, you're doing really well!
Same goes to everyone else too....it does get easier I promise! 0 -
You are all going to think I'm awful.....
But when I gave up I carried a picture of a famous heavy smokers lips, with those awful lines all round them. I know smoking kills, but I just found a visual reminder very effective. I get the odd craving even now- triggered by situations.
I must admit I hate the smell now. I buy myself nice fragrances instead- I can afford them with he money I saved on fags!!
Good luck & keep it up0 -
It was a blood clot that had formed in my artery because some cholstrol had broken off or something like that. Certianly a wake up call. I was totally terrified, I couldn't speak or breathe. Hubby just rang 999, Fast responder was with me within 5, then paramedics another 5, and then ambulance which took nearly an hour to get to a hospital that could operate. blue lights too, very surreal. All down to smoking. think on that when youre dithering over a fag, really good luck to you....
Thankyou I most certainly will consider all you have been through next time I want a fag.
Considering both my parents died within 16 months of each other (both quite heavy smokers) from Cancer
I should hang my head in shame.
It wont happen to me is what I keep telling myself.

There used to be a support thread on here for people trying to give up smoking but I can't find it. It's not easy but If I can do it then so can you! I quit 5 years (I know I can't believe it either), 3 months, & 1 day ago
I did use the inhaler as I needed the hand to mouth thing, but I know I'll never smoke again. So well done everyone who's quit or trying!
I stopped within a week when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then I've had 5 operations to have tumors removed from my bladder, when I ask the cause they tell me it's smoking.
Oh yeah & don't forget there's no point dressing up .... & all that jazz if you're gonna smoke because you absolutely stink! But we don't know that until we stop ;-)0 -
            Another new non smoker here

I had my last cig on 9th April and have given up with Champix.
Tried cold turkey previously and lasted less than 24 hours. Didn't want to use NRT.
So far i'm finding it ridiculously easy which i was not expecting - was a heavy smoker (15-20 a day for 9 years) but i haven't really had any cravings or mood changes  I know part of this is due to the tablets but having done a lot of research prior to quitting and looking through forums, i was prepared for the uphill struggle! Maybe it will come soon and surprise me!
I use the app "smoke free" which has been a massive help - never thought i would look at an app so much but it really is interesting and informative, as well as making you feel proud of yourself when you see how your health is changing and money saved.0 -
            Well done pinkstarsx
I had my last cigarette on 5 April - 2 weeks, one day ago.
So far, so good!
Not missing cigarettes so much, but missing the habit. I keep busy with different things, but just need a healthier habit to compensate for cigarettes.
Had been smoking 3 to 4 packets a week and have saved about £60.0 -
Congrats to all those who have more recently quit. I've just passed the 6 month mark and rather proud of myself. It doesn't matter what method you use imo as long as you're off them. Well done
                        4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I just wanted to say well done to everyone and bump this post up again.
Still no ciggie, I have a Nicorette puffer, which is think must be therapeutic because I put a cartridge thingy in it on Saturday and Im still using it lol. I think its just the habit and fresh air Im dragging through it.
It says on the instructions to not use more than six cartridges a day, I think I would be overdosing badly at anywhere near that ha ha.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I had my last cigarette at around 11.30 last Sunday night, this was about 8 hours before I had the most horrendous chest pains, fast responders at my door, paramedics in my bedroom, ambulance peeps carrying me out of the door and travelling hell for leather to Leeds General infirmary for a heart operation.
I have smoked for around 50 years and I will never, ever smoke again. I put myself in that position, only myself to blame.
Well Done to anyone who gives up, it took a near death experience for me to do it. xx
In through the wrist and stent insertion?
Had this done three years ago. Umpteen tablets a day then is now down to six/day.0 -
Well done to everyone so far who has given up, I gave up last July after stopping in 2004 for 7 years to only go back to it! I have a cheap electric cigarette that cost £5 and use that if I go out for a drink as I only crave a cig then now not in the daytime, I am determined I will never go back to it as the money I have saved is amazing!
I have an app on my phone called 'smoke free' it also tracks money saved, cigarettes not smoked and days since I gave up, my total £ saved is currently £939.54!
Whoop I even bought myself an iPad as a present for giving up, keep at it everyone, xmummy to 3 monsters!
trying to money save, but spot too many bargains on here!!0
