When the last house I bought was left in a filthy state & items left behind that I'd specifically asked to be cleared, I contacted my solicitor who had a dialog with the other side's solicitor. The upshot was I was offered £25, which I told them was a joke & an insult.

The offer was promptly withdrawn & no further offer made. My solicitor advised me it could be costly to try to pursue the matter through the legal channels & that I had no guarantee of getting all my costs back so I reluctantly left it & tried to put a curse on the vendors via telepathy as my form of revenge instead.

    Did the curse work?

£2.50 for lower rate qualifying material.

For inactive waste eg building materials which I don't think is the case for the OP unless the shed was full of bricks, gravel and earth.

Well we seem to have gone way off topic. I was still answering to the challenge that I couldn't legally dispose of waste at £100 per tonne, and in my case it was inert rubble.

In the OP case I stand by my original point that a man and van would do it cheaper than a skip and I don't see why that could not be accomplished legally.

If we want an in depth discussion on the cost/tonne of waste disposal then perhaps a new thread would be better.
  • On moving into our house we found the garage full of rubbish, the shed, under stairs cupboard, kitchen cabinets, fitted wardrobes all in the same state. The gas fires had also been ripped out, (gas turned off at mains) leaving uncapped pipes - illegal i think?

We took it to small claims and lost as the vendor played the emotional card, crying about how she had just lost her dad. We lost the case. Total waste of time and money.

Based on my experience, I would just get a skip, fill it and move on.

Was the shed included in the sale as a specific item.

    if not. freecycle

shed and contents(list) free to collector

    no need for a skip.

if there is such a small amount of stuff go round and get it skip is not needed,

chances are they are planning to do some refurb and need a skip.

It's MATHS not MATH God Damnit!!

    Should really say Arithmetic,

Maths should be reserved for the hard stuff.
  • Either of "math" or "maths" can be used, even though in its expanded form it would make no sense (mathematic??). It's one of those examples without a singular version I'm afraid (think politics, ethics, gymnastics etc).

But yes, "math" is a commonly accepted Americanism on the word.

Thanks for your answers. I will offer to pay for the skip but nothing else. I think they are trying their luck with compensation. I was joint owners with my ex in answer to your question, and no the shed wasn't completely packed, just a few tins of paint and a mower that was already there when we moved in

You have sort of contradicted yourself in your sentence , you have offered to pay for the skip to take all the rubbish away , then in the next sentence you are saying is " theres just a few tins of paint and a mower"........The least you can do is , if theres only a few paint tins and a mower is take them to the waste site yourself, or if the shed is full of cr*p then get them a skip in.................
I too wouldnt be very happy putting the door key into my new homes door to find it filthy having to dump other peoples cr*p ................

Why would they need a skip or anything to clear a few tins and a mower?

They just need to use their car to dump everything at their local recycling centre...
Don't offer anything if that's the case.
