They can only claim compensation for actual loss they have incurred and can prove. Eg cost of skip and hire someone to fill it.
Skips are expensive. You would be better to shop around for a local "man with van" rubbish clearance guy who will dispose the lot including labour. I just got upwards of a ton removed from an upstairs flat for £100.
It costs about £130 per tonne at a waste transfer site to off load general waste.
I wonder what he will do with your rubbish0 -
I can't believe that people leave their rubbish behind for new owners to deal with. I must have been lucky as never moved into a house with as much as a nail left behind and certainly never left anything when leaving ours.0

If you and your ex sold the house toegther then tell him to get the stuff sorted. If it was just you then you should have dealt with it in advance.
I don't think they have any rights over cleanliness - its not a hotel and to some extent its a matter of perception, people have different standards.
I have left odd items in a house when we moved, things that were there there when we moved in eg a carpet beater- I felt they "belonged" to the house and should stay there.0 -
Happened to us , dirty filthy vendors , !!!!!! left in the shed and !!!!!! in the house
some people have no shameNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
I wouldnt offer the skip. What if they order a forty yard ro-ro? Cleaning a house and possibly a shed is part of moving.0

the 'man with the van' and the person that hired him are both to blame for fly-tippingWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It can't possibly have been done legally for that price.
You have a duty to ensure that anyone who takes your rubbish away (apart from the local council or their agent) is a Licensed Waste Carrier who will dispose of it lawfully. If you fail to do this, you are as guilty as they are and could be prosecuted. You should always check the public register at http://epr.environment-agency.gov.uk/ePRInternet/SearchRegisters.aspx to ensure that your "man with a van" is licensed.0
