There's advice here. http://www.cancer.ca/en/cancer-information/diagnosis-and-treatment/radiation-therapy/side-effects-of-radiation-therapy/radiation-to-the-head-and-neck/?region=sk
It seems the advice is to discuss these side effects with the radiotherapy team, as they can be mitigated. There seems to be no benefit in not complaining! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Sorry the treatment is so brutal.
I'm having the mild version apparently. I dread to think what the full on treatment is like. You have to stay in the hospital if you have that as your spit, wee etc. is radioactive. You can get dry mouth gel. There are lots of products, and this is an example. http://www.biotene.com/products/gel
Biotene has been recommended to me by the dentist. As I only have half a parotid gland on one side I might end up needing it all the time. Too little saliva can cause problems with oral hygiene.Hair falling out? Welcome to the club, mate! At least yours will grow back.
It speeds up shaving slightly in the morning too as I now don't have to do one small patch of chin as much!0 -

Yup, will have a chat tomorrow morning. The treatment is only in 15 hours, give or take. They're very approachable.0 -
Well the side effects are ramping up now. My mouth is bone dry and has a metallic taste in it, nothing stops my ear from hurting and my hair has fallen out of the back of my head.
Despite that I am still reasonably chipper.
Oh. The word radiotherapy sounds pretty inoccuous by itself.
I think I might be radioactive this morning. We met our new next door neighbours until 3amEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It sounds a bit like sitting about and listening to The Archers. Unfortunately it is actually to do with deliberately causing large amounts of harm to parts of the body.
I do actually get to listen to the radio while they're doing it. They have some dodgy Golden Oldies station on where they inevitably play something that I used to find particularly annoying back in the day.Doozergirl wrote: »I think I might be radioactive this morning. Sound like a friendly bunch. I don't think I could sit up until 3am right now.0 -
That's a movie I wanted to see. No idea it was on. Seem to have lost track to find out what's on in the week's TV. Haven't bought a Radio or TV Times in decades.
I'd not seen it before. Definitely worth watching. If you've not read the books, I believe miichaels should have a set you can borrow
I'd watched Ghana v Germany and couldn't be bothered to watch the last match of the evening. Then I remembered there is often a film on Ch4 at 9. Bingo!Do you have a video recorder?
My house is quite retro, but not that retro GDB
I own 3 videos - Star Wars episodes IV-VI (now have them on dvd too). I guess the stash of videos from childhood would be mine if I wanted them too. There are only a couple I'd particularly want. A Sooty video - because we watched those two episodes so much my brother and I still have some 'catchphrases' from them. And one called 'The Tale of the Bunny Picnic' which was the last thing made by Jim Henson.
I've got 2 tvs, both have integrated dvd players. The one in the lounge is an ugly cheapo one I'm borrowing from my brother. As and when I find an unbeatable offer on a nice one it'll be replaced. The one in my bedroom was also a cheapo one but isn't quite as ugly. It also has a USB port so you *can* record things. I generally forget about that ability, and tbh I bet I wouldn't end up watching any of it anyway...0 -

I'd struggle too. I'm ready for bed at around 11pm
Sorry to hear of the side effects from the radio, Gen. At least there are only 3 sessions to go. Then your body can start getting over it all. Sending you positive vibes0 -
The BBC had a piece which I can't find last week about how kids were now more right wing than their parents putting a lie to the quote about beign a socialist when young unless without a heart and a Tory when older unless no money. I'm sure when I was younger we spent more time rebelling, being anti-social and anti-establsihment. Nowadays being anti-establishment as a youth seems more like a fashion choice than being about convictions.
Then again we also have those choosing to take up arms in Syria, villified by the establishment but I suspect more like the 'international brigades' of the Spanish civil war (which were no doubt seen at the time as a huge threat to the status quo in Blighty) than a real threat to British democracy.
Edit: This is the piece - no luck finding it on the BBC search but first hit on google http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-27865991
Apparently they don't drink much either as they are appalled by their parents' drunken behaviour so instead they sit around in coffee shops discussing culture (towie) or something.0 -

Well that's not sounding too good .... I hope you can find something to eat/suck on that helps ease the discomfort mouth-wise.0 -

I'd also need to see the size. Measurements are in cm, so I'd have to convert that to inches, then draw it out on the floor to get an understanding how how big/small it is in reality.
Roughly 3 foot by 2 foot. The table itself is solid. Solid enough for me to stand on to change a light bulb and not feel that it is likely to collapse.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
