I prefer to have working air conditioning in my cars. Not particularly to keep me cool on hot days; as you say, a window open or the roof down is preferable. But I swear by it in winter, to demist the windscreen. Every time it stops working, I will happily pay to have it re-gassed, just because I value the speed at which it clears the windscreen in cold or wet weather.
Air con makes journeys bearable for me. I try to open the windows in this weather but we use fast roads in the main and it's not practical. For heating in the winter - the regular car heaters honk of stale air and make me need to vomitI need fresh smelling air so have it all the time. Doozer turns it off when he drives, changes the radio to crud and pulls my chair too close to the steering wheel. And usually cakes the footwell in mud.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

DS2 was meant to be on a plane to an African country to do some work experience. Got denied boarding at the airport. Some mix up about whether the correct visa should have been obtained in advance or could it have been bought at the arrival airport. According to everyone apart from the airline, a letter of invitation to work should have been enough, airline (which was an airline of a different country because they saved money by booking an indirect flight) wouldn't accept it and sent them away.
He said they treated them like kids and weren't interested.
Of course Friday afternoon and the embassies all closed. Looks like they will have to apply for an emergency visa on Monday and fly later in the week.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. More reasons to be cheerful to be single
Really annoys me when I get the car back after it's been in the garage and they've reset the clock (family tradition dictates that it's set 3 mins fast) and moved the drivers seat (always backwards, never forwards) and mirrors.
I'm sure they listen to my CDs though(they're never at the track they were left at).

You are meant to use it at least once a month to keep it in tip top condition, otherwise the gas (insert science word here leaks/ evaporates/ settles/ disappears).
I think the gas also lubricates and if you don't use it the seals are not lubricated and get brittle and fail. Ours went for an Amazon local re-gas and the machine said 'not holding pressure can't top up so then it had to go to AC specialist who says some pipes need replacing for lots of ££££.
I don't know how people can say open window or roof down, both of these are ineffective when slow and unpleasant at speed.More reasons to be cheerful to be single

We have Jam-es/Jamaleelou, Josh wash/Bonzo babe/Joshy and Bobo/Bodalee/Bodie.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Hmm. Would it be reasonable to assume you don't like the wind in your hair? Or perhaps that you don't or didn't have a motorbike, and only like to travel at speed when secure in a metal box with SIPs and airbags galore?
The things you find unpleasant are the very things I want when I drop the roof or open the windows.
Luckily, we are not all the same.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Car air-conditioning: will cost 250 plus vat to fix, we may just get used to arriving everywhere looking hot and uncomfortable. Not so bad for me as I rarely drive anywhere far and normally before 9 and after 6, not so good for DW and the kids. We do have a trip on Sunday when no doubt if it is hot and the M25 is stationary we will be reconsidering.
I've never had a car which had air-con, and don't mind at all. I find climate control in general rather unpleasant, gives me a dry throat....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
