Car air-conditioning: will cost 250 plus vat to fix, we may just get used to arriving everywhere looking hot and uncomfortable. Not so bad for me as I rarely drive anywhere far and normally before 9 and after 6, not so good for DW and the kids. We do have a trip on Sunday when no doubt if it is hot and the M25 is stationary we will be reconsidering.
I often see groupon deals for re-whatevering car air-cons.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I may be biased, but in terms of kits I think the Equadorian one is by far the best. It actually looks like their flag (yellow top, blue shorts and red socks). On that basis alone they definitely deserve to go far in this tournament. Definitely.0

If it's slow moving you'd be better off opening a window anyway.
My car has air con. After the recent mentions, I tried it on the way home tonight. Not convinced it's working. I don't tend to use it though anyway(too much of a tightwad)

I'd never had it and when I bought my current car it had a button for it .... one day curiosity got the better of me and I pressed it, made no difference. Some months later BIL was moaning that I'd not turned it on and I said I didn't think it worked, but as I've never experienced it I couldn't tell.... then I pressed the button. 2 minutes later he confirmed it isn't working as nothing was happening/it made no difference.
Never looked into why, what's wrong, getting it fixed. Worst that happens is you get a bit hot and have to open a window ....
Later on I found out about re-whatevering a system (saw some big sign at a garage) .... but I figured if they needed re-whatevering, then mine was probably "too late" and I should have got it looked at sooner ... and now, by having left it doing nothing for 4 years it's just dead.0 -
I prefer to have working air conditioning in my cars. Not particularly to keep me cool on hot days; as you say, a window open or the roof down is preferable. But I swear by it in winter, to demist the windscreen. Every time it stops working, I will happily pay to have it re-gassed, just because I value the speed at which it clears the windscreen in cold or wet weather.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Actually - that sounds like it just needs regassing. Rather than that there is a leak in the system. I'm no mechanic but I'd guess it would work if you got it regassed.0 -

You are meant to use it at least once a month to keep it in tip top condition, otherwise the gas (insert science word here leaks/ evaporates/ settles/ disappears).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
