I think its fine to buy sloe stuff. Some people just aren't hunter gatherer types. They keep those who do it for a living in business. Its like any other aspect oF life...some are sahp, some do a bit of both, some have really amazing child care. So long as its good its good.

My pet hate is people who stop and strip my best forage ing things closest to the house rather than things further away.....its my GARDEN . I am PLEASED to share my hedgerows, but I wish people would leave me the stuff near my house.......its my 'wild' kitchen garden. I think its a bit rude.0 -
Sadly, MIL passed away on Wednesday evening, and we buried her yesterday. It was sad that none of her generation were able to attend. Mostly, she'd out-lived them, and the one or two remaining were too frail to attend.
I felt a much bigger loss than I thought I would when my grandad went. I wanted to find out more about what he had done in his life - I got some comfort from reading a brief passage about him in a history of the ship he served on but then when I thought about it some more it made me feel a bit more empty that I could have found out more about what he did. He outlived the rest of his peers too, I don't know whether he would have opened up about his experiences if I had asked- it would have probably just annoyed him but I'm gutted I never asked...I spent a lot of time reading the last recollections of the WW1 generation but failed to draw on the experience of the WW2 generation when I could have. Sorry if this has become irrelevant to your post but it just made me think.0 -

I would think it rude too.
We used to have a plum tree in our front garden. Fabulous looking plums....really watery and tasteless.
We were always amused by the walkers we saw who scrumped them.0 -
A Doctor once told me that codeine breaks down into Morphine. The reason they prefer to prescribe codeine if pain is bad but not hideous is that codeine doesn't give you the high so you are less likely to become addicted and it's less salable on the secondary market.
I was wondering how to explain about how opiates work but the mice do it so much betterThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

The nicest I had was a hilarious well spoken old guy who had spent he's trying to find me to ask if he could take two apples.. I was delighted and asked if I couldn't give him more. He left delighted and laden with fruit and I left thrilled some one had had decency to ask.
The light in my bedroom isn't working tonight. Its neither the bulb nor the trip switch. I have turned a lamp on instead and will try not to worry about what it might be overnight:)0 -
How much do you have to lose? What motivates you to diet?
I should diet, as I need to strip away quite a lot of plumpness - sadly CBA.
Weird as I have a lot of lovely stuff in my life and my health would benefits, so ought to be more motivated.
Um, I've now down 80lb from my highest recorded weight ( over quite a long period of time) ; I'd lost around 20lb I think before that but I can't be sure. I've got around 30 lb to lose to get to my target which is simply to get out of the obese category and onto the 'overweight' category by BMI. Despite what the labels say, 'overweight' is probably the category with the best health outcomes for most people.
My motivation is solely health; I've had two blood clots in my lung and sooner or later if I don't get into the overweight category I will certainly have another in the next fifteen years or so with no reasonable chance of living through it. In fact, I think the weight loss I've already done is probably the reason I'm alive today.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

When my grandpa (who we had little contact with) died, my parents hid it from us kids as it was Christmas Eve. They made sure we enjoyed Christmas, even though they must have been suffering immensely. With benefit of being a parent now, I realise that's what we'd have done, and I suppose most parents would have done.
Fifteen years later my other grandfather died (us kids were all adults, and they held a proper wake with good food and a knees up). He was the "jelly-man" I described some threads back.
The way the country worked in WW2 was remarkable and needs to be studied by everybody IMHO. There used to be a GCSE World History which covered 1870 onwards. I got one of the revision guides back in the 90s and it made me realise how much I'd undervalued history. The early 20th century had so much going on it could have give almost every other stage in history a good run for its money I reckon.:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
After obtaining my new bike I have experimental proof: you can forget how to ride it.
If you want to ride a bike regularly and stay free of injury then the main thing to remember is to keep your cadence up: it's much better to ride in an easier gear than feels natural and have your legs spinning faster than to have to push hard against the pedals.
Your legs should be spinning at about 60-90rpm. The easiest way to check that is to get a free 1 day pass for a gym and get on one of the static bikes and then just see what different cadences feel like. Then after a couple of months riding on the road, pop back to the gym to check that you're still in the right kind of area.
The best thing about cycling as exercise is that you can't give up and go home half way through. If you've cycled 10 miles out then you pretty much have to cycle the 10 miles back again!0 -
I considered suggesting that if it's that painless then I could remove their parotid gland without painkillers.
I don't really understand why people who haven't got a clue are so aggressive with their medical advice.
My ex mother in law said the bumpf from the hospital prior to my hysterectomy was wrong as her friend had been released from hospital the same day and she was back at work and driving within 2 days.
Unfortunately, ex hubby believed her rather than the hospital and decided I was malingering when the hospital refused to release me from hospital within hours of my op (when I was still in the land of the fairies, confined to bed and hooked up to many drips, monitors and with a catheter in!).
You can only imagine his rage as the days passed and they still said no to releasing me....even though they had said right from the beginning the very earliest would be 4 days post op (Friday) if everything went as planned but probably longer because I had disabled children at home.
In the end, I came out on the Friday afternoon (op was late Monday evening), as he had badgered them so much.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
