Years ago I used to get migraines. I don't any more, but I sometimes get some nasty headaches that remind me of what the migraines used to be like and can be quite debilitating. During the day the thing that works is a paracetamol/aspirin/caffeine mix. If I want to achieve the same kind of pain killing effect at bedtime and so don't want caffeine, I have sometimes taken plain paracetamol with plain aspirin at the same time. If that's not enough, I add ibuprofen. Otherwise the headache keeps me awake, which is clearly not helpful for anything.

I used to have similar. At first strike I have a coffee or diet coke. If the caffeine doesn't kill it off then I take one paracetamol with one ibuprofen (the fast acting variant). If I get the feeling it is going to be a bad one I take 2 ibuprofens instead of 1 P + 1 I.

Usually that sorts it, but sometimes a repeat round is needed 4 hours later.

the caffeine alone works 30% of the time.

I know nothing of painkillers/drugs.... it's only in the last 2-3 years that I've needed to buy/own painkillers at all! I've got the 20p packets from some random supermarket. Probably used 4 tablets this year (2x2).

    Well done. Getting there! :)

Weird. And why is the URL "Single parent organiser"?

If it gets worse nearer the end, you could even add some aspirin as well - I don't think there are any variants of Panadol that contain aspirin as well as paracetamol, but (at least in the UK) there is Anadin extra, and supermarket/pharmacist own brand copies of it, containing paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine. Check of course, that aspirin isn't contraindicated with your zapping.

I was under the impression that you can't mix ibuprofen and aspirin as they're both xxx (NSAIDs?).

If caffeine cures a headache, that sounds like withdrawal and relief from access to the drug. Not judging just saying.

I see no reason to avoid ibuprofen too and will take as required. I've taken very occasional pain relief during the day so far not because I'm trying to be a tough guy but because I don't need it. The only time I do use it is at night. Getting a good night's sleep is important I think.

I meant to send you a PM to thank you for posting that meditation, I tried it today and it was most helpful. I will try to do it twice a day until this is over. Perhaps mix some up
Any advice for which is better?

I find meditating outdoors best. Somehow, I feel attuned with nature. As I breathe out, I imagine the trees breathing in my co2 and benefiting from it. That's all nonsense really, but it is great to feel the breeze and hear the sounds around one. Obviously, this might not work so well if you choose to do this right next to the motorway, say!

Much to my surprise, ocado delivered five packets of grapes at 40p a packet. I was pretty sure they would be out of stock.

Interesting point Gen is making about headaches being cured with a dose of caffeine. Is it really as simple as that?

And no way will DW's brother take the mutt!

Enjoy the feeling of walking round the place and realising that you are now somebody who owns a home in which to use the things they sell. :)
    Actually, it felt very weird...

And don't forget your nectar card.
And to tell nectar that you've moved - they'll send you vouchers for extra points etc.

Enjoy making the house and garden yours :)

    Don't have a nectar card I'm afraid.

On the garden front, had an interesting discovery yesterday evening. In the big garden clean up, I have found a strawberry bush in amongst the weeds! Work has begun on rescuing it...

Never grown strawberries (or any fruit) before.

Yes. But also no. It is my home. It feels like home. But not a "proper" home. I have not yet achieved a level of sorted-out-ness that makes me feel that things are OK even if not perfect. My standards aren't particularly high, either.
I haven't got pictures up yet, & 2 rooms have not been touched at all really. The bedroom & guest room both have everything in them, just not in the right order.

I think I've a lot of stuff close to the right place, it just needs ordering/hanging up/putting away.

Strangely, it does feel like home though. Maybe that's cos I'm a bloke, & happy to live in my own filth:o . Or my standards are waaaaaaaay lower than the both of you!:p

Googling aspirin and ibuprofen only seems to bring up stuff about how ibuprofen can interfere with aspirin's anti-clotting effects. I expect it's a bad idea to do it a lot, but I don't think doing it occasionally will do any harm. I don't do it very often, anyway. My treatment of choice if one of my bad headaches is keeping me awake at night is paracetamol/codeine, which I discovered when they prescribed it for post-partum cramping and it magically got rid of a migraine at the same time. I wouldn't take that during the day, though.

I don't think I get caffeine withdrawal, simply because my caffeine intake isn't anywhere high enough for me to be dependent on it. I don't drink tea or coffee, only have coke when out at the pub with friends 2 or 3 times a term, and only have it in painkillers occasionally too. But it does seem to make quite a lot of difference to those particular headaches, if it's in combination with pain killers - caffeine alone won't touch them for me. The only thing that actually cures rather than masks those headaches is sleep, so I suspect that the reason aspirin/paracetamol/caffeine is more effective for me than aspirin/paracetamol alone has to do with caffeine's stimulant/alertness effect.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Are you living there full-time, as in sleeping there every night? Are you happy?
Yes NDG. Got the keys wednesday. Went in & thoroughly cleaned everything.
Moved everything in the next day. Have been there since!
& yes, thus far, happy. Strangely, yesterday I felt very tetchy. Not sure if it was tiredness, or exhaustion.

Off work friday, was debating whether to spend the day getting more stuff done in either the house, or more likely the garden, or to go on a day out.

I have a friend who reports similar.

I never take tablets for anything if I can help it. Hate taking them. Except for when a child, the only time I have taken tablets was when I injured my back 7-8 years ago.

GBD, I do agree with Gen's comment re caffeine. I recall a friend who was weaned off caffeine by his GP. He was having way too much - coffee, tea, coke & chocolate all day every day. When taken off it, he was hallucinating & everything.

Caffeine is one of the most addictive substances ever IIRC.

"Domestic god" made me smile. :)

I thought strawberries grew on small ground level plants, and raspberries grew on bushes???

I very much doubt you have lower standards than me. You are as settled in as you could reasonably expect to be after only a few days, and the settling is making obvious progress. That was enough to make me feel at home back in the day, too. It's the "been here 3.5 years and still not got the pictures up and not making any progress with any of it" feeling that gets me down, and makes me feel that while this is "my home" it's not a "proper home".
