    Getting there :)

Any luck with the pain or do you need to keep gritting your teeth?

The pain is getting worse and will continue to get worse until after this is over.

I can also look forward to food tasting horrible and my spit going all stringy this week. Oh and being more tired (I'm already sleeping 9 hours a night).

I'm not surprised about the sleep. That's your body repairing itself. Did the specialist offer any advice about the pain? Painkillers presumably?

Edit. And my sympathy, of course, but that's not going to help much.

Panadol was the advice. It still doesn't actually hurt that much, it's just constant.

I've got one more day tomorrow and then Fri-Sun off. Then 5 days next week which I'm really not looking forward to. Then once I get past that I've just got 3 days and it's over.

This is like cycling up a mountain. If you look at it as one thing then it's too much. If you break it up into chunks then it's much easier. Once the treatment ends, the pain subsides. That's just like riding up a mountain too!

Sorry to hear about the pain/ lack of relief.

That sounds like a good way of thinking about it.

    Sending you good vibes x

You're getting there Gen. Nearly half way up the mountain. Are you going to somehow celebrate getting to the top?

You saying u have to break it into chunks made me think of the phrase 'breaking the back' of something.. which swiftly moved on. So now in my mind it's Gen's Brokeback Mountain. Totally different plot of course.

Hope you manage to fit in some nice things with the family on breaks from your ascent.

Can we chip in to an NP gift and send you a yellow jersey for reaching the top? Or strictly speaking a King of the Mountains one?

You can probably take ibuprofen as well? Because there is a limit on the paracetamol. Of course, you need to get this job done, but completely unlike with climbing the mountain there's absolutely no merit in it hurting more than necessary.

For this sort of nagging, constant, relatively low level pain, meditation really can help take your mind off it. You just breathe the pain away. You observe it as being there, but detached from you. I really can't explain it better, I'm afraid.

I see no reason to avoid ibuprofen too and will take as required. I've taken very occasional pain relief during the day so far not because I'm trying to be a tough guy but because I don't need it. The only time I do use it is at night. Getting a good night's sleep is important I think.

I meant to send you a PM to thank you for posting that meditation, I tried it today and it was most helpful. I will try to do it twice a day until this is over. Perhaps mix some up
Any advice for which is better?

I had a lovely time in Jersey, friends came over for four days and then on the 5th, I scattered Mr Bugs at St Brelades early in the morning. We rented a beautiful cottage in the centre of the island, would have loved to know what the main house looked like. the gardens were fabulous as well, but having two gardners, three days a week, probably acccounts for that!

Hope it gave you a sense of peace, and that he's at rest.

We are making the best of our inheritance, really, but I don't think we'd have chosen a 12 year old dog with a £700 lump on her chest. She's good for long walks, though. In fact, she's had more walks in the last two months than she had in the previous five years.

What sort of dog is she?

We prefer noodles to rice, so that's not relevant in our case, but I wouldn't reheat if we did eat it.

I think food comes down to personal choice, if I'm honest. I'm fine with reheated takeaway, but I know some that wouldn't be.

WIth rice I don't think it's about choice, so much, as to whether you think it's icky or not. There is a nasty kind of toxin that can grow on cooked rice, I think.

Next door still has tons of brambles that are approaching 9 feet high. Shouldn't be a shortage. I needed to clear these, as they are all around the summerhouse & I don't want anything affecting the wood.

It's actually a little scary how easily I've settled. It helps that there are no "big jobs" (eg windows) that need doing. Most jobs are pottering about type jobs. There's a lot of them though!:o

Are you living there full-time, as in sleeping there every night? Are you happy?

Weird. And why is the URL "Single parent organiser"?

If it gets worse nearer the end, you could even add some aspirin as well - I don't think there are any variants of Panadol that contain aspirin as well as paracetamol, but (at least in the UK) there is Anadin extra, and supermarket/pharmacist own brand copies of it, containing paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine. Check of course, that aspirin isn't contraindicated with your zapping.

Years ago I used to get migraines. I don't any more, but I sometimes get some nasty headaches that remind me of what the migraines used to be like and can be quite debilitating. During the day the thing that works is a paracetamol/aspirin/caffeine mix. If I want to achieve the same kind of pain killing effect at bedtime and so don't want caffeine, I have sometimes taken plain paracetamol with plain aspirin at the same time. If that's not enough, I add ibuprofen. Otherwise the headache keeps me awake, which is clearly not helpful for anything.
