Me too ... once a parent dies, you're all more aware of death around you - and once over 50, you're all more aware of how scarily close to one's own age the dying seem to be!

Not to mention visiting a care home for a year with various elderly people shuffling off and often in a not very pleasant fashion. Since Mr Bugs has died, there have been 5 deaths of people I know and my old boss's son has flown in from S. America this weekend as it's down to days. It's downright depressing:(

Do any uk employers have a fixed number of paid sick days?

We only pay SSP and I extend that to myself. I carry my own insurance in case I am off for longer than a few days.

My reputation for tact has been secured by this discussion between the vet and me.

Vet. This lipoma won't get better on its own. We could operate.
Me. How much would that cost?
    Vet. Around £700.
Me. Cheaper to get a new dog.

I hope you had your hands over the dogs ears!

One of the first times I visited they were having a "flower arranging" session that afternoon. "That's nice" I thought, then I found out the flowers were the funeral flowers 'donated' by their newly-departed friend's family post-funeral. *shudders*.

    I think it's very sensible:o

And scrolling back, congratulations to the chewies, hope you have some furniture by now.

    Furniture's over-rated.... all you need's a small TV table and a bean bag :)

The rest is expensive stuff that needs moving around to clean ....

The mutt is very right-wing, a Republican, and a paid-up member of the Tea Party. She knows it's a dog eat dog world out there.

She had a torrid time at the vets, yesterday. The vet wanted to get a sample from her sore paw, which involved sticking a needle in the sorest part. The mutt is not brave, and boy can she struggle!

We are making the best of our inheritance, really, but I don't think we'd have chosen a 12 year old dog with a £700 lump on her chest. She's good for long walks, though. In fact, she's had more walks in the last two months than she had in the previous five years.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Sorry, didn't want to worry anyone. Don't worry.

Cheers. I was trying not to worry ... we all have to disappear for 101 reasons at times :)

I just noticed you weren't about.

Sore paw is probably either over-walking soreness.... or chewing it from being sad at her recent loss.

Despite being a dog person, I'm not overly sentimental - especially when they get to over 10.....hard call though.....
