Are you among the Jewish NPs? Writing "g-d" like that makes me think you are?

OH is arranging Danny's Brit, now his forceps marks are nearly gone. Fortunately, I don't have to attend, so I won't.

That's brilliant tomterm. Well done! At this rate I'll have put on 3.5 stone by Christmas

I've lost 10lb between just before I got pregnant and now, 3.5 weeks after childbirth. That's thanks to the hyperemesis pregnancy diet, which I don't recommend.

Sadly, though, I should shed another 2 stone. I'd like to think a bit less, but I reckon 2.

Thank you :) Hopefully things aren't that bad... but if they are, I hope that you at least enjoy the chocolate cake:) I know I did :(

Nope, I'm an agnostic. I do redact certain words to spare other people's feelings. There are people who might be offended by it and I'd rather not offend them.

I have a sporadic internet connection, and have come close to throwing the laptop from the window several times tonight. Orange (or whatever they're called now) want until Tuesday to fix the issue, so I'll be sporadically around this weekend, but not in full.

    Well done Tom!

I saw that. He must have some dementia to [a] be in a home escape with such cunning.

A reasonable person would have been able to say "Hey I've found a way to go, so I'm off" and they can't stop you really. He must have been let out to go to the local saluting event .... but whistled off with his medals on a pre-booked coach with some other mates.

That's the funny thing with dementia ... the thoughts/actions just don't make sense..... and they start to think people are preventing them from doing things.

Yes, must have given many people a rather large scare. Fortunately made it to where he wanted to go.

Looking at BMI charts I'm at the top end of "normal". In the past I've been less..... I was down to 8 stone 3 in about 2004. Unfortunately, when I look up ideal weights for my height it's quite sadly quite a bit less......

So I'm happy floating around 9.5 to 10 stone..... and just accepting that I'm a lardy piggy who eats too much :)

    I'm happy floating around 18............

I need to lose about 4 stone apparently, but whether I will or not is another matter. 2 down, 4 to go :)

I have nothing to be able to find out with .... e.g. mum's real dad had gone over the pond (so did he fight for them, or us?); she was brought up by her grandmother, so was living with her uncles (I know one fought as I've seen a photo of a man in uniform). Her photo album has photos of nameless men in the desert - she doesn't remember if they were friends/family or more.

If the photos are clear enough, it should be possible to identify regiments etc from cap badges. That will give you an idea of campaigns and also possibly names. I have been researching my great uncle using books written about his battalion in WW2.
    Serious question.

In a world that travels more for business, where time is money and where looking at tourism space travel is serious,

Why haven't we replaced or updated the Concorde fleet?
    .

Noisy, expensive to run, not profitable and old technology. We aren't there yet with the replacement technology. Plus it was invented by the Europeans. Boeing never liked that. NY was threatening noise ordinances before the fatal crash. It went from the safest plane in the world to an abysmal safety record in one incident.

It was very noisy. It used to fly over my office every morning, so you knew not to make any calls at 5 to eleven.

I loved Concorde though. It enabled me to do the most amazing thing I've ever done... taking off at night and flying 'backwards' through time, I flew backwards through sunset. Absolutely visually stunning.

Fir's been asked to give a talk in the north of England. :)

Seems incongruous. If he gets a nice hotel in the deal I might see if I can go too.

    So, holiday ....sort of. :)

They might not have electricity up there yet..... probably need to take an old whistler.

Oi! We do have electricity :p

(Well, depending on which bit of the North you're going to, that is :D )

    .

Supersonic flight was banned over most of the destinations where people have the money to fly supersonic because of the sonic booms.

Any future generation of supersonic planes would have to be much larger (because operational efficiency depends on the number of passengers) which requires more powerful engines than exist commercially. It would also require the sonic boom problem to be sorted out.

So... money, and technology is your answer.

You have to remember that in every war, somebody's job is to erect the camp toilets and take them down again .... I bet my family did something like that.

Is there a hat spotters database?

Most of the photos are small snapshots of guys "hanging out together" .. and the one studio photo I have of one person whose name/DOB/address I know shows no badges. Some tiny skull cap set on one side (the side that's not facing the camera) - although it does seem to have a bit of a strange shape/size. Probably would turn out to be some support role, rather than a fighting machine; definitely not from "officer" stock.

    17 lancers, or 21st lancers.

Edit: I'm assuming he was in the army before 1958 where they merged to become the Queens Royal Lancers.
