Fuel costs are up by around 2p a mile (which works out to more than £1000 a year on the lowest-mileage, and around £1800 a year on the highest), and the conversion costs are supposed to be something like £2000 on a new vehicle.
We're going to be buying the E5 stuff for as long as possible, I can tell you that much. On a side note, aren't the '14' plate ones we have ugly?!
.
I know on the tractor units they were reckoning it would add 10k for euro 6, though that seems to be industry exaggeration. Interesting on the ppm comparison, using more fuel basically. Fortunately I don't really go into London often with the big stuff, so I don't worry about LEZ, though we only have two that aren't compliant there.
I think all the van refurbs are looking a bit dodgy at the minute. Tractor unit styling is looking good on the Volvo, not sure about the Renault range which has had the most radical re-styling. can't beat a Scania, even without a facelift;)0 -

S&B were saying that we're not the only ones to be moaning about loss of economy, but we work on a 'near enough' (usually rounded up) ppm purely so we can work out what a contract will cost us. Current rate charged is 25ppm for one of the band vans (all Sprinter, with a couple of '60' Crafters left for the next few months), and other charges around 30% lower than pre-recession.
The largest big stuff we operate is 26t box, the current ones of which are on '09' and '60' plate, both E5 (I think), so we're well covered for LEZ anyway. We're running Axors, so I can't comment on Scania.
Anyway, lets not get into a trucking forum on the NPT!💙💛 💔0 -

Most commercial flights do not afaik use just 1 pilot. I once took an internal flight on a tiny plane in US to Tallahassee and there was only one member of cabin crew, but there were still two pilots.
Having said that, if you take the scenic flight over Fraser Island in Aus, or a helicopter flight, I think that type does often only have one pilot.
As NDG said, there are certain small Airlines than can operate without a Co Pilot, depending on weight and number of seats (20 I think) Aurigny Air Services fly Trislanders to Alderney without a Co-Pilot.0 -
Yesterday was a really hard day; I've not had one like that for some time. After a listless, apathetic long weekend and a good day with friends on Tuesday, I got into work on Wednesday and promptly burst into tears. and cried myself to sleep.
Today was better but the weepiness is still only just under the surface. I could up my anti-d's but that feels like something I won't reduce later, so I really don't want to unless it becomes inevitable. Today was better but it's no way to live really.
Yorkie, is there something we can do?
Can we 'listen'?0 -

Thanks tt - didn't know that about them. Will look into that more. The depression is actually anxiety; when I'm overloaded - or have been and coming back out from that pressure - then I present as more depressed.
Ok, I cannot access that part of my memory now but they are contraindicated for good reason. For eating disorders its because fasting can create a sort of euphoria. With depression iirc its debated from both sides. Some people/ research showing positive impact. hOWEVER, I personally would not advocate it but rather 'clean 'eating. Fluctuating crud can give difficult to cope with highs and lows.
Yorkie, please take care, know that we are here for you to listen if you want us to, but to just talk about other stuff if you want us not to as well. I certainly could not have talked about it here but felt able to on a board where I feel less close to the people. I suppose like I don't talk about physical health in real life much.0 -
May my plumber do his own plumbing.
with the same care and consideration he has done mine.
Yes. That will do veeeeeeeery nicely as a sincere hope I think. May all those he pays for work apply the same care and consideration would be a little dramatic perhaps. Maybe not.
I'll think about it before hoping it hard.0 -
Edit: more importantly, really nice to 'see' you GDB. How are you and Lady GDB?
Thanks for asking. We are absolutely dreadful! Both of us. We went to friends for supper on Monday, and they poisoned us. We have both had the most awful gastroenteritis since then. This is the first time I have sat at the computer since Monday, as it's the first time I have felt well enough to do so. I live in hope that we will get better fairly soon.
You may have gathered that I am feeling grumpy, wretched and grumpy! I imagine that the friends are absolutely fine, or at least the husband is, and he's the one who does all the cooking. He must have a cast-iron constitution, because I am fairly certain that he doesn't wash any of the fruit or veg. He's notorious for doing this, but it's never been as bad in the past.
His wife suffered from terrible tummy upsets for years. Eventually, she went on a special diet that she prepares herself. Miraculously, she's recovered completely! She ascribes that to the special diet, whilst I wonder....No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Oh no GDb! That's awful.0

Sorry you are feeling so rotten. It sounds as if you need to eat out with them in future. The price of accepting their kind invitation to dinner is too high.0
