I'm not inviting any afficionados round here either, at least until I get rid of the orange carpet!
Don't forget I've spent a lot of my working life in commercial interiors. It has shaped what I like. Unfortunately my finances will never run to the prices. Some of my RL friends are gifted furniture designers. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? An afficionado would describe my taste as "honest" ...... it's not pretending to be something it's not
You and I would get on well PN.I think....0 -

Might be interesting watching for people who have recently bought ex student digs houses
She's had it 5 years... the bloke in it was her lodger/a student, but now they're a couple.
Edit: Eww... black leather tiles (2' square) being adhered to the chimney breast as a feature wall.
Edit 2: Special retro/vinyl-style wallpaper from EW Moore
Edit 3: Er ... Roman blinds - they were awful and 'trendy' in the mid 80s. Dust traps!
From your description, it doesn't sound like I'll get many decor ideas (apart from confirming what I don't like). But might get some tips as to how to find a bloke
Though a couple of friends have already suggested that I should get a lodger (or two) for that very purpose. I thanked them for their confidence in my ability to find a partner without needing to ensnare them in my house :eek:0 -
I've just got back from a walk into town.
I was planning to visit the bottle bank and see what was on offer in Lidl.
I've come back with 4 dresses, 2 tops, and a cardigan. (Edit: not from Lidl!)
I think it's a combination not being able to deny that summer is on the way and I've not bought any clothes for ages and am really bored of the things I keep wearing (I've got into a habit of wearing the same thing on the same days of the week too...). No good waiting until I slim down, that will probably never happen and even if it does I need more interesting things to wear now.
While I was out a friend text to say she'd seen on Facebook that someone we went to Uni with passed away yesterday
Selfishly made me think of all the things I'd like to achieve before that happens to me. 0 -

That's not selfish Nikks. Sometimes it's good to focus on your aspirations. Don't beat yourself up for being human. DH and I have been building an Excel spreadsheet of our bucket list. It's not bad to have something like that to look back on and see how your wants and desires change over time either. Plus it gives meaning to saving for something other than a house. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Thanks viva.
Mine is quite a short list and mainly involves things money can't buy...
But it's a reminder to live in the moment as well as with an eye on the future.0 -
Our ceiling fan lamps have a small edison screw (ses/e14) fitting and need thin bulbs not too long. They also have dimmers. I want a bright bulb (preferably 100w) that fits, is dimable and preferably energy saving. Not at all easy. there are loads on EBay but they don't seem to mention european safety markings - I'm surprised it is so easy to sell such bulbs in the UK.I think....0

That sounds complicated...:p
We just try to do as much of what we've always wanted to do at every available opportunity. And view work and finances as a means to an end.
You really never know when your time is up, and I don't think anyone ever gets to their deathbed and says "I wish I had spent more time in the office"....
In the last few weeks I've had 4 hours of instruction on the B737, taken Mrs McT to a national ballet in a stunning location, stayed at a legendary hotel my great-grandfather went to, and organised a get-together of family and friends from three countries for a special occasion. Oh..... And met a nice person.
I now have a credit card bill the size of a small banana republic's annual deficit, but hey-ho, that can be sorted.
The experiences were truly remarkable however, and I'd feel pretty cheated if I died tomorrow and had a bit more money in the bank instead of having those memories.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Did they expect it, or was it as a surprise to them as it was to you?

I don't have a bucket list, but I've been very limited as to what I could do (and enjoy) alone ... and with few funds.
For me, the main part of a bucket list would include the phrase ".... with X and not alone" in it.
Most things done, alone, are soulless and depressing events - most activities heighten ones "aloneness" and I think one of the best things about doing stuff is doing it with somebody else so that you can recall having done it at random future points.
Alone-ness pretty much sucks.
And that's before you start then considering that with one, small, income, most things are out of one's financial reach anyway.0
