I think I might be .... pencil me in. I'll see how things pan out by that date. I've never been.

Google maps makes it look easy ... but I've travelled that route before and I know it's a high concentration, slow, winding road route .... not many physical miles though.... 140 return or so.

I suggested to spirit she comes here, parks and goes the rest of the way with me.

My car has more than one passenger seat.

Spirit is 'doggy' so will get the need to sit on a clean sheet or throw, but this understood the same offer is of course open to you.

My apologies, I should have made that clear!

I think it's a flexibility thing... that they need to pay people overtime (rather than offer TOIL) to work weekends where they don't have enough staff (due to sickness/holidays/exams, etc). You could also address via zero hours contracts, but then you wouldn't get the continuity and they would still need to be paid.

People don't want to come in at a weekend when they aren't due to work without being paid overtime, problem is, that's when most people do their weekly shop.

    It is a premium thing.

The supply of workforce is different at weekends.. schools operate Monday to Friday, childcare operates Monday to Friday. Weekends are premium time for families and people want a lot of "compensation" for the opportunity cost of weekend time.

More worrying than the length of the queue to pay for toilet roles on a Saturday, is that there is evidence that Hospitals are less safe at weekends due to fewer availability/Supply of Senior Medical staff.http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/newsandeventspggrp/imperialcollege/newssummary/news_11-6-2010-12-5-7

Saturday was a big day in my fathers 'retirement job'. He felt as a 'team leader' he should work it.

There were other bonuses. Weekending traffic was avoided commuting Saturday night or Sunday morning until Monday night, and shops /things tend to be quieter on Mondays than weekends.

The only down side he /family ever found was restaurants not being open on Mondays.

... today after a week of looking we found the blind clips for the room we had decorated and until now been unable to put the blinds back up....
I'm quite OCD about this sort of thing.... I'd have used a sandwich bag to stick bits into, then tied or masking taped the bag to the rest.

... then I decided I would put the new housing I had ordered on DWs rather battered mobile and of course I can't find the correct (highly specialised - Torx T7) screwdriver :(

That'll be "somewhere safe" - but you will only remember where that is when you rediscover it.

I was in North Yorkshire couple of weeks ago, on a walking Holiday with some friends. We stopped off at a Pub one lunchtime, and a dish called Parmo was on the menu. We asked what it was, to be told it was a local speciality.

    Parmo_%28food_dish%29.jpg

Here's what it consists of

Chicken or pork fillets are flattened, then dipped in egg and then bread crumbs, after which it is deep-fried. Onto this is poured a thick, white sauce (similar to b!chamel sauce, but butter may be partially or wholly replaced by other fats) and then it is topped with grated cheese. The cheese is usually cheddar, rather than the Parmesan cheese that originally gave the dish its name. The dish is then grilled or baked to melt the cheese.

So not too much cholesterol :rotfl:

Needless to say I only had a small one.

Unhealthy for one person. In fact I think it could shorten the life expectancy of a battalion.

    And yet, ridiculously tempting.

Blimey. A Pizza, kebab and Indian all rolled into one  Must be the ultimate takeaway!

    Thanks Zag.

A friend who is a native of Glasgow but now lives down south, told me of being told (in a strong Glaswegian accent) that "Pizza was awful bad for ya, it soaks up all the grease".

His sister and parent were still living in Glasgow and he went to visit. He travelled up in the family estate car and not his Audi TT which he had loaned to a member of his staff for the weekend. he explained this to his sister saying it was so that the chap could take his new girlfriend out in style. The new girlfriend was still at school.

On hearing this his sister said and considering the youth of the girl "at her age she wid a bin more impressed wi a Icecream van".

Yes, I'd do that too then.

When I had a quick look on the map (didn't look hard/detailed) it looked as if the route goes right by your house anyway .... so it's the same route/roads, except the destination is a few miles further.

The trouble with the road I took/take is that it's a very variable speed limit and you can't just switch off and think "it's 30 or 60, so am I in a village or not" it's all sorts of random speeds so you have to continually take note/remember what the last sign said .... or be the "idiot that's holding people up" when you're out of a village and not sure if it's 40 there or 60 ... or something else, so you do 40 just in case :)

Man, I really fancy some chips now.

I've pretty much wasted today. I've done my washing, and am helping a friend with a job app. But I've spent the vast majority of today napping. Oops :o

    Napping's good.

When I saw the photo I really wanted some kebab :)
A few chips wouldn't go amiss either ..... making a kebab is high on my list of things to make once I move :)
