Tonight three of our chooks including the cockerel have not come in. I have chased a fox out of the field and so has DD. They were last seen this afternoon in a nieghbours garden two doors down.
They have not done this before so I hope they have found somewhere safe for the night.:(
Oh no:(.
Hopefully they are roosting some where safe.

Not that we can see.
The grass in the little field is about 2/3ft tall as the ground was too wet to get the grasscutter out so places to hide...for chooks...and foxes.
We need to get up at dawn to see if they appear...and avoid the foxes dawn patrol.0 -
I did something stupid today.
Cooked an ingredient I had not used before and wanted to try before cooking it for others tomorrow. Except today I cooked it with another strongly flavoured ingredient and then was no wiser as to what it tastes like on it's own.
I had been MSE and on the advice of the fishmonger bought coley instead of cod loin. My mistake was cooking it together with smoked haddock for lunch.0 -

How is your wonderful dog with chickens? This is the sort of thing dog dog helps me with often.....
Big dog would find 'em and eat them. Dog dog finds 'em and jumps up and down going ' there HERE, there HERE'
Their noses are so much more useful.
I should teach kiwi about finding chickens, He's pretty good to sitting by the door so I can heaprd them in from the other side and soho them in.
That's the difference between a normal dog and a collie or dog dog I guess, white here I stay by the door and SHE herds them in. Gosh, haven't done that for ages. Might have a to at the weekend.
I am thinking I might try making pulled pork tomorrow. Never made it. But its barbecue weather, I think DH and parent would like it a lot.
I might even make a jello salad.0 -

I like coley, and I don't like very ' fishy' fish. I like mild white fish a lot.
I'd serve it with our no think white fish method, ( pan, with a small amount of sauce of butter, capers, white wine, lemon, Maybe parsley. ) with out feeling 'wrong'. Because its mild it takes flavour IMO.
I really, really crave orange roughy now. Oh, And dill, I want dill.0 -
I make a nice salsa for fish made from grapefruit, orange and lemon segments, thinly sliced raw fennel and onion, dill, salt and a tiny dash of olive oil. Some capers would be good in there too if you're a fan.
Bung it in the fridge for a couple of hours and you have a great thing to serve with fish.
Not a fan of coley. I have used it to make a fast fish stock to cook mussels in. Only fit for cats imho.0 -

We have used him for this purpose before..he just mooches about and may or may not 'put them up'. It is rather more down to them having a nervous disposition and fleeing than him flushing them out.0 -

Oh, that salsa sounds amazing.
When DH bought his deep fat frier we dropped lemon slices tossed in cornflower in, they were very popular!0 -

It was nice (but took the smoked flavour) in with my smoked fish and lemon & pepper sauce.
Tomorrow I am taking lunch round to octogenarian neighbours not feeding moggies:eek:
They have lived here all their lives grew their own etc, but infirmity has brought them low. They now usually eat delivered in frozen meals, but another neighbour and I have started to make them fresh food too.0 -

Well, I like it.
My record of fish isn't that great though. I am not very fond of fish everyone else likes and pays a lot for , such as tuna or monkfish..
