I keep on looking at dishwashers, then I look at the price, then I wonder "will it work without spending just as much time loading / unloading / rinsing as I already spend" then I look at the dishwasher again...

It does seem to be, get it and you love it, but as a single person , it jsut seems a lot of faff and as I very rarely cook and usually only one pan if I do, still not convinced.

@Spirit - I often listen to a TED talk, that takes my mind off all sorts and re-directs it to better things.

Masomnia, is that Ford at Halewood? Always a lot of competition for jobs there.

When I am alone it takes me a week to fill, but saves whole load of faff between times. ( dishwasher)

I actually find it less useful after big gatherings when you produce more than a load or two, and so still have to wash up to clear up in reasonable time. But at least there is normally company, DH and I do it together and chat. :)

No Monday morning early start......off to see GP this morning so DH is going late.

It was a glorious morning so I put on a silk jersey tunic dress and a pair of linen trousers and flip flops, now as I am shortly about to leave its raining.

Doesn't stuff dry on hard though? If you made, say, a baked casserole and microwaved some eggs..... it'd dry rock hard before too long.

The problem I have is when I've a dish that's too big for the sink, or awkward in the sink. Or, 2-3 that I want to leave in soak.... new house has one of those 1.5 sinks so I can have stuff in soak and still be able to rinse something off easily, which you can't do if the bowl's full of 2-3 things soaking.

With one sink, if you've stuff in soak, it can prevent you keeping on top of new items ... the .5 sink will make keeping on top of new items easier.

That was a "story" some time back. The question becomes "how useful will what you learn actually be?"

I've done coding courses in the past, OU/degree at 2nd and 3rd year level. That coding isn't in languages that people use. I can use the "transferrable skill" of knowing I understand how that low level stuff works to another language, but then what. Then I've got to learn another language and have a use/application for it. And then, to achieve something useful, it'd take HOURS (weeks/months) to get close to what you thought of.....

I just don't get it, why they are promoting this. It's a bit like saying everybody should learn woodwork (more useful in my opinion) - how much actual woodwork could people actually use from a low level course; it'd just be the start of an expensive/long-winded journey to achieve anything you actually found useful.

Exactly. I did basic at school, fortran and more basic in my gap year, and pascal at university. The only coding I do now is VBA for excel, but I do find that very useful, both at home and at work.

I do not watch much TV. I have switched it on once so far this year to watch HIGNFY when silvercar posted that David Mitchell was chairing on Friday. I am being brave and will put it on this evening to watch Crimson Field. I will actually spend most of the programme hiding from it, it is the last episode and more tricky becasue I am on my own. I have managed the other episodes as OH has been here. I go and and hide, then return and ask what has happened?

Can't do drama, suspense, cruelty, violence, docu drama, reality. Even some comedy puts me on edge. OH watches TV and he does not complain but I must drive him nuts by expecting him to account for the storyline when I have seen snatches of things.

I can watch Jeeves and Wooster and Rom Com movies. That is it I think. Wish I could watch more as I know I am missing out on a lot but the upset/anxiety it creates is not worth it, and I seem to be getting worse as I get older.

Eurovision leaves me cold and until the NP thread I had no idea that anyone other than those into irony, student and gay culture cared about it at all.

I can do drama, but not violence. I managed the first 5 episodes of the Crimson Field, but need to find out in advance who's going to die in the last episode so I'm prepared for it when they do. :o

TBH I'm not much of a TV watcher. I'd rather be cooking. I do watch sports and the odd series like this. Usually I watch them mostly to spend time with Mrs Generali. She loves a bit of TV does Mrs Generali.

I have shows that I watch to spend time with DD. Her current fave is Motorway cops.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

But I get nothing done at home.
Right, I'll try and get some sleep! Night all. Sorry I've been moaning a lot recently.

I'm pretty sure I have the most trivial grumbles on here (they bother me though), and no-one has ever told me to be quiet :) So don't worry about it.

I tend to get nothing done at home study-wise too. That's why I ended up spending the vast majority of my annual leave in the office last year (likely this year too). I'm not usually the best-presented at work anyway, but I definitely dressed down on those days - was just getting out of the door asap.
Oh well... !!!! happens; no point feeling that was a wasted weekend though.... you lived through it, that's an achievement!

It'd put me off. I couldn't answer those questions at all. You can only answer those questions if you've got help, been coached, etc.

I don't even know if I've ever shown leadership ....

Of course you've shown leadership. You've got yourself through life this far. Everyone has examples of this kind of thing - it's just a case of realising they are indeed such examples (e.g. they might not be work-related).

I have no idea whether it is illogical or not, but I have a phobia of germs on wooden spoons and chopping boards. I don't use either, preferring plastic alternatives. DH uses a wooden spoon, but I really dislike them as they are not coated and just seem too porous.

I believe when some actual tests were done on these things some years ago, the wooden boards/spoons performed much better than plastic. Wood has some natural bacterial-killing properties left over from when it was a tree that needed to resist bacteria to stay alive. Plastic doesn't. Glass/marble performed better than plastic (because no scratches for stuff to get caught in) but not as well as wood.

I find the dishwasher clean after washing up reassures me - for both the wooden spoon and plastic chopping board.

I worry a lot about chemical transfer from things like cling film and Teflon frying pans especially in things that go in the oven. Also agree with Spirit about all the chemicals in the house although I also worry about the hair and other aerosol products.

I find the dishwasher reassuring too, but beyond that I don't worry about any of it... germs, chemicals, cling film, whatever. I have more immediate concerns, and can't waste brain space on such things.

I suspect that anybody sitting in any room, anywhere, at any time, could say "I got through life this far...."

Yes it will. Once you get one and get used to it you will never want to be without one.

LOL ... I think I'll be increasing the value of my whole road ... paying the most ever paid for a house there!! Sucks doesn't it!

I did that for my road too.

I just had a burst of a Sunday night-itis (it's Sunday night and I was meant to do x, y and z and haven't done any I them), so have spent the last hour filing paperwork into my pretty pink filing cabinet (bought more folders today). Feeling a teeny weeny more organised and the lounge looks a little less hoardy :o

    Well done :T

Still not feeling great. Had a bit of a wasted weekend, didn't get much done, fell out with family, washed my £200+ phone.

Decided I'd apply for a job so I'd at least have something to show for the weekend; Ford are looking for graduates, and so I thought that might be a good thing to do this eve. But it's a lengthy application form, 'When have you shown leadership?', 'When have you faced an unexpected challenge and how did you rise to it?', 'Tell us about an achievement you're proud of', 'When did you part the seas and what was the outcome?'. I just couldn't face it. I can see why they do it, as they get hundreds of applications, and having lengthy forms puts off the non-serious applicants. I'll get round to it eventually.

Still, new week tomorrow, bit of a fresh start. I'm going to head into uni, as I'm going a bit crazy staying at home and I need some structure to my days. I normally think it takes about 30 mins to drive and then it's a 20 minute walk (don't really want to pay for parking and need the exercise), so by the time I've done that and got ready etc. I may as well have worked here. But I get nothing done at home. I think it'll do me good to have as shower, shave, put some aftershave on, clean clothes and get out of the house, even if I don't see anyone I know. I might text some people while I'm out (assuming my phone is working) to see if anyone fancies a coffee.

The 10k I mentioned is in a week, and I'm annoyed at myself but there's no way I can do it. A few weeks ago I fell and twisted my knee which meant no training for over a week, and this past week just getting out of bed has been a win, never mind going running. So I'm going to enter another one in a few weeks time. There are loads around now.

Right, I'll try and get some sleep! Night all. Sorry I've been moaning a lot recently.

Your priority at the moment is to survive and to function. Major exertions like job applications and running can wait for a bit until you are feeling more yourself (unless your dream job has an immediate closing date).

Moan as much as you need to. Most of us have taken plenty of turns at moaning on here. You're entitled to do the same, and we're here for you. :)
