    May I re-phrase the question;
Why don't I get holidays like that?;)

My experience of these things is that more than one person can have a bad day at the same time. After all in a lot of ways her life is terrible and the one person who she feels safe with , rely on and can trust might be very ill for the next while.

I've seen that before, the other person can't handle it for the above reasons, but doesn't feel able to say so because then it's mor pressure on the ill person, so it never gets said until the frustration spills over. Not that it helps you Gen.:( Best of luck for today as I think it now is and I hope you and Mrs Gen have kissed and made up now.

Am I expecting stuff to move quicker than reality allows?
Instructed solicitor & rec'd opening letter. Replied with letter & first cheque over 2 weeks ago. Cheque has cleared.

Heard nothing from solicitor since (will there be no contact til they've done the searches? How long is this usually?)
Had acknowledgement of application for mortgage (letter referred me to broker for any queries). That application was exactly 2 weeks ago.

I feel stuff should be happening. I'm packing stuff up (& getting on parents nerves doing so) & am getting towards the stage of having very little room left to store packed stuff.

    Is it me?:o

Similar to me. We are now waiting for first direct to open a current account in our names as application cannot proceed further until that has happened. Have been waiting since last Tuesday - rang up today and told they might do it by the end of the week...

Solicitor has got started I think but they need the bank to instruct them to act on the mortgage which won't happen until the valuation has been done which is awaiting new account opening.

I did think about opening a new account at first direct a few months ago to head off this sort of delay. Wish I had done that now!

Well Mrs Generali decided would be a great night to start a fight. I've got cancer surgery tomorrow and she's got a bit of cleaning up to do. Obviously that makes her life terrible and me the ah.

Hmm. Am I allowed to offer that her day tomorrow may be quite as !!!! as yours is? I bet anything that she's !!!! scared.

Sometimes not being able to express yourself or communicate effectively erupts as frustration and anger with the other person. She probably wanted resolution and hug, just too loudly and angrily.

Some people are lucky that hard times bring them together. It's not like that for all of us. If one person can't cope, the other falls too.

I had to do a bit of tidying up and send some emails while my husband was at work today. I wouldn't willingly swap her day with mine :o

Easier to quote than the big thing.

Why don't you drop the solicitor an email, checking in? They still send searches etc out to you by snail mail. I'm so rusty on the process now but IIRC, if the vendor's solicitor doesn't send out draft contracts etc quickly then there is a bit of a waiting period.

It is all waiting, though. Weeks of doing nothing and waiting. A valuation date from mortgage co would be nice at this point.

Do people know what date is being roughly aimed for?

Ah silver, I've been thinking of you. Remember seeing the broken mandarin segments on the list of things that can be donated to the foodbank?

I found a recipe for a pasta in the "Girl named Jack" cookbook. I made it for lunch yesterday. You cook pasta in a yoghurt sauce and add mandarin segments, chopped herbs and strong grated cheese. It was actually very nice.

How easy is it to isolate an outbreak of Ebola? Should we be helping, out of self-interest if for no other reason? There were reports this morning that the outbreak had reached the capital city, but these are now being played down.

Pretty easy - it's too deadly and too hard to transmit not to burn itself out.
