Interesting comments on Apple as I had come to the same conclusion a few days ago, specifically the Nokia comparison, what is their usp these days? Then again I have never been an apple fan boi but my life is not about paying £500 for a small piece of plastic with a symbol of a bitten apple on it and perhaps Apple will continue to sell the same products as everyone else at a huge price premium just because of better branding/marketing?
It is almost like the nudge stuff, which I do believe can work but I don't think is the 'free lunch' some right wing policy makers seem to see it as, i.e. a chance to change market outcomes without state intervention, as although it may not be new laws it is still state intervention imho.
aiui mac really was streets ahead in some industries. we were recording using macs with macs along side studio equipment and getting super sound years and years ago, certainly the project i met dh before we met on was very mac -y ..i've never cared for equipment so apart from the fact its cheaper often its of no interest to me...., really now you can can be anywhere you have a laptop. i am thinking of buying dh a new recording set up (his died with old mac some time ago) for a reasonably big birthday thi year ...biblically halfway through....and not sure where to get advice but not sure why i wouldn't go mac for this. portable, familar, established, user friendly.
just no idea what to get really:rotfl:0 -

Yay to lir's heating and hot shower. :j:j:j:jvivatifosi wrote: »Thanks maggie, interesting article. Interesting that it mentions Nudge. I found that a very interesting book, though only managed the first couple of chapters before it had to be sent back for a reservation (one of the downsides of library books).
It is interesting that they've used organ donation as it shows the differences within behavioural economics.
The papers cited by Ariely show that if you have an opt out system for organ donation that take up rates are much higher than for opt in. Partially this is because 'do nothing' is the default option. It is also because people who opt out have to struggle with being totally heartless (no pun intended).
The experiment cited in the paper relates to opt in. Having read (a bit of) Nudge, this is very much Nudge territory. However if Britain really wanted to they could switch to an opt out system and get the numbers up overnight.
It is interesting that the backlash has started against behavioural economics, but surely it is just another tool in the toolkit. If there are economics problems that have been bashed out time after time after time using conventional tools and that have not been answered, then clearly they need to be analysed under a different lens.
I think organ donation should be what Nudge calls "forced choosing". So that in order to get, say, a driving licence (for adults), or to register with a GP, or at your kid's 6 month health visitor check, or things like that that the vast majority of the population get, you have to tick a box to say yes, or no, or these organs but not those ones. People who haven't yet registered their wishes could be flagged up on the NHS computer system and asked to fill in the form when they interact with the system for whatever reason. Nobody making decisions for you, no default that you might not have wanted, but equally no chance of "just didn't get round to it" or "we don't know what he would have wanted".Doozergirl wrote: »He's off 28th March - 23rd April. DS finishes on 4/4, DD finishes on 5/4, and I finish on 29/3.
We all go back on 22/4 after the bank holiday, although for me that's inset whereas for them it's a normal school day.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
