There was no such thing as debating at school.... and, to be frank, I can't debate. I can think of a response 2-3 weeks later, which isn't much use
My Dad taught all of his children (and Isaac, too) to play chess when they turned 6. We played with him, and each other, and also at school - clubs at school didn't cost money, though, unless they involved materials, outings or so forth, which chess didn't.
Did your school do things like mock elections when they were happening in the wider world?PasturesNew wrote: »I'm old enough to have seen a lot of grubby pubs and grubby men over the years, in a variety of grubby settings, hearing their endless grubby banter
I had a bit of that working in Ladbrokes part-time - betting shops are very heavy on the grubby old men and their grubby banter. The first day I was there one of hte first customers I dealt with said, "oy, lads! We're gotta bit of posh in 'ere today!" which was pretty much the general tone of conversation.Norfolk sounds a good antidote to stress for you and Lady GDB. I had an Aunt live not far out of Norwich and have some very happy memories of the area.
Which if substitute the word truckstop for snooker hall, is why women on the whole don't want to be truck drivers;)
Sister #2 has an HGV licence, and while she was studying to be a chiropracter, used to drive marquees around a lot for a local company in Kent.
She's the smallest in the family - 5 ft 4, slim, lots of long fair hair, and used to get odd reactions when jumping out of some massive lorry. As a motor racing course in Kent, a guard once said, "blimey! Never thought I'd see Barbie driving one of these!" and then said, "you know you need a special licence to drive this, love?"
Don't quote photo, will delete later - but you can see why sister #2 isn't a stereotypical lorry driver:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Was that a posh alert? Or a generational thing? I mean - nowadays, would that be done in most schools, or just posh 'uns?0 -

That's what most blokes don't see - the !!!!!! girls have to put up with everywhere.....0 -
Of course most of the lorry drivers I know look more like NDG's sis than the stereotypical image!
Mauve squeaker has arthritis the vet thinks.vet also kept referring to her as 'elderly' which made DH and I very sad. My last Siamese lived till 19.
Vet was really lovely about her though, gushing about her confidence and condition. The vet is a feline specialist and I was super impressed by her.
I spent most of this morning asleep,. And my head is splitting but I cannot waste any more of dh's time off. I feel lousy though and kinda wish he weren't here to day so I could have slept all day with no guilt.

Interesting..........(and doesn't necessarily mirror my views)💙💛 💔0 -
I just read a really interesting question. Why are there no female professional snooker players?
Men and women compete professionally on a completely equal footing apparently. They play in the same tournaments, entry rules are the same etc.
Just wondering.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reanne_EvansWell my going to pick the car up was predicated on me being OK this morning.
Levels were too high first thing. Took medication, dleyed brekkie not to add more 'fuel'. Levels dropped a little and we set off. Got to car, checked levels and I had gone up beyond my self set upper limit:mad:.
So I set off, OH following. Felt OK but parked in a supermarket carpark until levels dropped down.
Will see a GP asap.
Meanwhile, look after yourself! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Chess is a fantastic game! I love it, & wish I could play more often.
Couple of years ago, a friend taught me backgammon, which is also great fun. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Advance warning - work is likely to get somewhat manic as is the norm across the next 4-6 weeks+.
Accordingly, I might not be about.
Nice to see wheezy & GBD back!
In addition to the aforementioned MIA's misskool still not reappeared? Hope she's well, & gardening

Sorry to hear that. If squeaker gets prescribed metacam, keep a careful eye. Possessed cat got quite ill on it, though it also sorted out whatever pain had been troubling her.
(Sorry to hear you're unwell too, of course. Priorities...)0 -
And seeing your subsequent posts, I hope you get to your GP pronto and get it sorted.

This weekend I am going to have to have some serious thought about my kitchen. It was knocked through many years ago, but is single skinned brick at the back half and very cold in winter. At the very back of the kichen are two brick 'rooms', one of which once housed the old outside loo. I'd like to knock through completely and then add a large window or glazed area at the back. Just haven't quite reconciled myself to the expenditure yet:eek:
Bring out the floor plans! :dance:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
