I just read a really interesting question. Why are there no female professional snooker players?

Men and women compete professionally on a completely equal footing apparently. They play in the same tournaments, entry rules are the same etc.

    Just wondering.

Ooh it's getting cold over here now. Max of 16C tomorrow and a minimum of 9C overnight:eek:. Bloody hell. I've got to suffer the entire winter over here too, no escaping to 3 weeks of 30C days in the Northern Summer. I still can't believe we're coming over at Xmas. Stupid man for agreeing to that.

It was a bit of a complex day at work today: I had meetings on the following subjects today:

    - FX hedging
    - Communicating with clients via Twitter:eek: and email
    - Accountancy when fund structures change :wall:
    - New security policy for International offices I have to implement
    - Eating cake (we bake a cake each once a fortnight for the others on our team)

    All over the place.

Hi all. I see that the thread has been ticking along nicely without me. Sorry that I have been too busy/stressed to look in.

I am pleased to report that my minor scare has turned out not to be an issue. And we are off to Norfolk for the weekend soon. That's my news.

Sounds great although sorry to hear about having to go to Norfolk. Last time I went there, many moons ago, I got very, very drunk on overproof rum by mistake and had to be put to bed. I always associate Norfolk with headaches as a result.

It's probably an incompatible lifestyle. Statistically there are fewer women who want to spend a lot of their time in dim snooker halls, with foul-mouthed members ... while travelling around to other dimly lit snooker halls, with equally foul-mouthed members ..... and having to be on the road, away from home comforts, spending too much time in dimly lit snooker halls among foul-mouthed members.

No quality of life, no comfort, no real joy ......

Also, culturally, while men (on the whole) are indulged by their OHs to swan off to aforementioned dimly lit hell-holes and then at away matches/overnight, with the majority of people seeing womenfolk as being the ones with child responsibilities, there are probably less men willing to take up that role for a variety of reasons.

I like most of this news but not the bit about the stress. Hope the weekend away helps.

On a more serious note, sorry to hear you've been stressed out. Is that stressed as in 'OMG this is terrible, I can't cope' or stressed as in 'Woo, that was a hard day with another one to follow'? They are different things IME.

Well my going to pick the car up was predicated on me being OK this morning.

Levels were too high first thing. Took medication, dleyed brekkie not to add more 'fuel'. Levels dropped a little and we set off. Got to car, checked levels and I had gone up beyond my self set upper limit:mad:.

So I set off, OH following. Felt OK but parked in a supermarket carpark until levels dropped down.

    Will see a GP asap.

If it helps, my Grandad was a big fat bloke, a drinker (not to excess), a daily pipe smoker and ate a stereotypical Northern Workingman's diet (he taught me to love black pudding). He used to walk for miles in the Pennines, a love for hill walking that I also share with him.

    He got type 2 diabetes.

When the doctor explained to him how to control it and what to do he followed the instructions slavishly and got the whole thing under control within a year. He also lost a shed load of weight. He lived for many years with his diabetes perfectly under control and died of something unrelated. It took a while to gain control of the diabetes but once he did he was fine.

He was strict with himself though. Even on Xmas day he'd have a single beer (wine was never on the menu!) and just a couple of roasties. His plate would be a sea of veggies. All Bran for brekkie every single morning, 365 days a year.

Hopefully it's a case of understanding your body and its reaction to the disease. As I often say though, the plural of anecdote isn't data.

Sorry you have been stressed. How is Mrs GDB coping with the loss of her mother?

Norfolk is your favourite holiday destination if I remember? Have a good weekend.
