Er .. no ... and right up to this moment in my life, I've never heard of such a thing :)

Was that a posh alert? Or a generational thing? I mean - nowadays, would that be done in most schools, or just posh 'uns?

I've no idea, sorry. We had a mock election in 1987 at my primary school, when I was 9, I remember that because I was allocated Labour, and was trying to convince a load of small girls in a private primary in London to be socialist. I failed (-:

My secondary school had them, too, for general and EU elections.
    Vile peasants :(

That's what most blokes don't see - the !!!!!! girls have to put up with everywhere.....

My best mate did some pub work just after we'd left school after A levels, and learned very quickly not to say, "what do you want?" and ask what they wanted to drink instead. You're right, it's pretty normal, so all girls have to learn the don't-even-think-about it frosty stare pretty quickly.
And another shining example of quality manhood ... not.

Sister #2 shook her head, and said, "really?! no-one told me!" and drove off sharpish.

Mauve squeaker has arthritis the vet thinks. :( vet also kept referring to her as 'elderly' which made DH and I very sad. My last Siamese lived till 19.

I spent most of this morning asleep, :(. And my head is splitting but I cannot waste any more of dh's time off. I feel lousy though and kinda wish he weren't here to day so I could have slept all day with no guilt.

I'm sure DH would rather you rested than got up feeling rubbish to be with him?

I've been called elderly a lot recently, too. Once you turn 35, you are an "older mother" which is a slightly depressing phase. Except that, in Islington, there are an awful lot of pregnant women well over 40, and most of the rest seem under 21. Not many in their 20s and 30s, it appears!

Hope Squeaker's OK on the new medicines.

Chess is a fantastic game! I love it, & wish I could play more often.
Couple of years ago, a friend taught me backgammon, which is also great fun.

    Backgammon's good, too.

What PN says about chess is true, in that you need to have people to play who are in the same rough standard as you. It's not much fun playing someone who wipes the floor with you in 10 minutes every game, or beating someone in 10 minutes every time either, it gets dull both ways.

I'm blessed with two extremely attractive younger sisters, lucky me!

DD is going to HK and Eastern Aus for a month later in the year. This week she has said she may book a couple of days sailing around the Whitsundays .

She has had masses of opportunities to sail or learn to sail, declined an internship working for the National Sailing Org of a Med country, declined sailing offers from a neighbour, from her friend for Tortola and St Tropez, declined Tall Ships, declined sailing lessons...she hates sailing.

I am keeping shtum but I want to say all of the above.

Full marks for tact there, Spirit!

I've done very little big boat sailing, only a few times. Almost all of the sailing I've done has been dinghys. One of the things I love about it is being close to the water, and on your own, with only wind and water noises. It's magically mind-clearing and calming, in a physical way. And a wet way, obviously! Hope Miss Spirit enjoys herself in HK.
Max Clifford's been jailed for 8 years.
Didn't expect that.... thought he was the King of PR and getting people out of things.....

Judge said "Your victims thought you were untouchable - and you did too ..."

    Ha PWNED.

8 years does seem out of kilter with others who do serious random violent crimes, even murder, and get a lot less though.

The sentences were added together, I think - so he got 18 months or 2 years for each one, and the judge added the sentences to be served consecutively rather than serving each at the same time. Couldn't have happened to a nicer man, mind you.....

Murder is a mandatory life sentence, can't be anything less.

Nice to hear from GBD, hope him and Lady GBD have a lovely and relaxing break. Sounds like it is definitely needed.

Spirit - same comments as everyone else really. Very glad you're keeping an eye on things, definitely sounds like you need to get checked out though, something different is required to keep everything under control.

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster week here. Start of the week was tiring as it was pretty stressful. The past couple of days have been tiring, but really good. Lots of thinking. Kind of surprised myself (and probably a few others) that I haven't completely lost the ability to think in that way.

    Might delete this bit later:
Meh. Time for a glass of wine I think.

Sorry to hear that. If squeaker gets prescribed metacam, keep a careful eye. Possessed cat got quite ill on it, though it also sorted out whatever pain had been troubling her.

(Sorry to hear you're unwell too, of course. Priorities...)

    Thanks blin.

Yes, meta am, but is know its reputation. What we're doing is trialling for a three week period to see if it indeed solves the issue then we'll address. Its not a drug I'd want her on long term if possible , unless she is one of those cast iron cats it suits.

Good move. Ignoring also good move, though I can see that a pointed request for the return of portable property might be very satisfying in the short term.

So, after feeling grim and getting up and going out I came home and ate a courgette and now feel grim again. Its so unfair. If I came home and ate....I dunno, a chocolate bar, or a packet of crisps, or a piece of cake I bake, or a scone fair enough, I'd get it. I just want fruit and veg.:(. Well that's not true, I'd like some cheese and a glass of wine too, but I'd be happy with fruit and veg.

They are already well aware that I am interested in this occurring (and only that, not chit chat or anything else). There was a (somewhat customary) apology for the lack, and some excuses offered (same as usual). Don't believe them, but ultimately don't care.

I'd like my portable property back. But I'd settle for an admission that it isn't going to happen. Don't think either is going to happen.
