We continue to do what we've always done with food which is the meal is what it is. You can eat or leave what you want of it but there are no alternatives although you do have to try everything.

If pudding was part of the meal, it remains part of the meal regardless of vegetable consumption (or whatever).

If they don't want their dinner that's fine but the next meal will be brekkie, no matter how much whinging and whining goes on.

It's been the same since they were 6 months old. It's pretty effective. It's Mrs Generali's idea. The Girl now quite happily eats my spicy crab pasta sauce (crab meat, chilli, parsley, lemon juice & zest, fresh tomatoes, olive oil, onion and garlic) and she's the fussy one!

That is, of course, the best way of doing it. It's what we started doing with them when they were little and there were two of us. It is much easier when there is more than one grown-up eating the meal to set the example. I'm sure it is possible with only one grown-up, if you have the energy to invest in making it consistent, which I haven't.

Yet another aspect of life in which I have failed to provide for my kids something good that I was provided with by my parents.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

We also failed. OH would get home from work too late for the four of us to eat together, so inevitably the boys would eat first and insisting that they heat what I would then remake for OH seemed excessive.

    Yet another?

Jeez, Lydia.....they alive, they are tall and not starving. Give yourself a break!

They aren't wee and that is not useful now. DS is getting to the age where he is going to have to take responsibility for some of his choices. That's why I felt some good inspiration by a non nut might be a way forward . As someone already cooking a bit he might develop and interest with access to skills. But only if it engages him.

The reason I would encourage breadth is for health, not just physical but emotional.

Goodness, anyone would thing you'd kept them in the garden and let them forage on garden plants and vermin with that plaintive post :D

I did find myself saying to myself, the other night, that maybe there is something in what you say. At least, after I'd been thinking positive thoughts about him, and then said, "Considering what a traumatic start in life he had and what a mess of a parent I'm being, how on earth is he turning out so well?"

Nevertheless, I could explain at length all sorts of things that I am not managing that would be good for them... except that I'm going to be late picking up DD from Brownies, and she doesn't like that, so I'd better go now and only be a few minutes late, rather than typing a long reply and being ages and ages late, as I frequently am.

More thoughts like this please. [STRIKE]Considering [/STRIKE] Despite all the adversity your family has faced, I have no doubt you're at least as good (if not better) parent than many out there.

Thoughts on DS/ protein variety. He seems to have made an informed decision regarding intake of tinned fish. Would he be able to make a similarly informed choice about variety of protein?

Had email from solicitor - they've sent a letter to the seller's solicitor asking for a whole bunch of documents (including any/all documentation regarding covenants) that haven't been supplied. So there's another week's delay I guess.

Nothing for me to do at this stage except await the response to that letter and see what falls out of the woodwork.

I am still "half looking" in case anything else comes up ..... although focussed on buying this one I'd hate to have to start from scratch if something untoward arose.
Still waiting for survey. Was being posted out today. Allegedly.

I have never shopped anywhere like that. Is that the kind of shop where if you have to ask the price of the item then you can't afford it?

I am still enjoying the thought of Jelly's question, though. :)
I was doing a modue on Rules in Philosophy at uni at the time. As soon as he started banging on about it, I spent the entire meeting trying to come up with a real exception to his rule. :)

Getting a bit heated here reading PN & LIR's discussions about stockings & suspenders. Phew!

Edit; Viva & DG have joined in!
