Took the kids to see Mr Peabody and Sherman. It gets Not Bad out of 10. I wouldn't chose to see it though.
It's not as good as The Lego Movie. I'd go to that without the Generalissimos! Altogether now:Everything is awesome
Everything is cool when you're part of a team
Everything is awesome,
When we're living our dream
Sorry to hear of the break in Doozergirl. I hate thieves. Parasitic scum the lot of them.
I'm making bread again. I slowed down the proving by putting the dough in the fridge. Pretty pleased with that.0 -

One of the things you can buy in Italian supermarkets is pizza dough ready kneaded. It comes in little plastic boxes such as twin packs of croissants might be bought in, and you can keep it in the fridge. Sometimes we have bought this, or made it and kept it in the same way, not had pizza very promptly and the thing has grown, out of its box.....and started to occupy the fridge. Once it escapes the box, despite the cold temps, its take over speed seems to speed up.. It is handy if you know you are going to use dough to be able to make it up. DH went through a period of testing when trying to get his dough like a place called Spontini ( sells two things, lasagne at lunch time, one flavour pizze the whole time). The pizza you buy by the slice, and DH likes buying the slice size called ' abondante' (I probably spelt it wrong though)

I thought I might make proper home made pizza on Wednesday with a bread base not a scone one. Thin crust of course. That seals the deal. The kids love making pizza because they get to help decide toppings etc. I think we'll have roast peppers, ham and some chilli. What did he find were the most important things for a proper pizza base? I've not made much pizza yet. I will.
I'm trying to get The Girl into chilli. She claims not to like it but she likes it in small doses and I'm trying to build her up slowly. We had pasta with little yellow tomatoes, crab, lemon, parsley and a little chilli perhaps a scant 0.5tsp. She went back for seconds and complained when she found out there weren't thirds! Crivens that's a good dish. The trick is to cook the dried chilli, onion, garlic, lemon and olive oil together for ages first. Maybe 20 minutes if you can. We get really nice crab meat in cans for $8 a tin over here. It's great for a midweek dinner.
Today we've got left over roast chicken with home made chips. Proper homemade chips are the best. The angels are getting their dancing trousers on!0 -
I made home made chips last night with some rib-eye steak and ratatouille. Was excellent“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

Go Nikkster! I am cheering you on as you try to motivate yourself to get on with it. :j:j:j:j:j
My house isn't going to be magnolia by the time I've finished with it either.
I am clearly not somebody whose taste in interior decor changes much over the passing years.
Thanks Lydia
A stable taste in interior decor sounds good to me - at least you're less likely to paint a room then decide a couple of years later that it's time for a change again!
There is a basic but functional green carpet throughout the house here (except the kitchen which has red quarry tiles - not sure but think they might be original, definitely look old). There are a few marks here and there (to be expected - it was a student house for quite a few years), but isn't threadbare so will do for now (now might be quite a while). I'm not yet sure what to do re carpets either. I've been thinking of something like a hessian carpet for the bottom of the stairs (can't really call it a hall), stairs and landing, and will keep the kitchen tiles and that's about it so far.PasturesNew wrote: »Nice one. When I look at things like that I think "pull desk away from the wall, then turn it round, so you're looking into the room when using it" - as sitting up a corner is more like being in prison .... the flaw with this thinking is often rooms are too small to have the luxury of being able to do that without the whole room looking like an office
That's kind of the point. I'm not going to enjoy my time there.I think the desk definitely says 'prison chic'. I could have created an 'office room' (lets face it I have spare rooms to choose from), but I wanted to feel live I was still in the living room. Just not doing too much living!PasturesNew wrote: »Watch out or this will form the backbone of ideas for what people will be buying you for the next 30 years, whether birds was a 2014 whim or not .....
I'm watching out (like a hawk). I've only actually bought those bird lamps, the duck doorstop and a penguin doorstop. I just keep homing in (like a pigeon) on birdy stuff. Or shiny stuff (like a magpie).
I think (hope) most people who know me know not to buy stuff like that for me. I'd rather have wine, flowers or go out and do something as a gift. I'm very fussy. I know what I like, and more to the point what I don't.0 -
Doozergirl wrote: »I dislike pastels. They're like pretend colours. Nothing goes with pastels, except other pastels. When I wanted a purple room, my mum has it painted lilac. Lilac is not purple.
If you love pastels, go for it, but don't hold back for the sake of what you think is tasteful.
Oh don't worry, I'm not in any danger of choosing things just because I think they're tasteful
I quite like pastels (for decorating). Do you remember the table I bought? (that both my parents have independently informed me would have been a very nice table if it hadn't been painted :rotfl:)
My rebellion will be colourful, but may be slightly muted
There is a lot of other stuff to happen first before I start thinking about painting though.0 -

That's my thought too. I have a three bedroom house, but with the exception of the living room, none of the rooms are very large, so bold colours feel a bit overpowering.
I'm therefore going down the pastel route, mostly with a grey carpet. Grey is nice and neutral - most importantly is not magnolia or beige - and goes well with pastels.
My living room is* entirely monochrome, with colour added through accessories and art.
* will be when I get rid of the horrendous orange carpet that I inherited with the housePlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
