Think I'll start on that after I've finished Breaking Bad.
I've not had the chance to watch any of it over this weekend.0 -
Happy (almost belated) Easter to those who celebrate it :j
Spent Thursday - Saturday at my parents in Inner Herts as my brother came over from the continent on Friday (till tomorrow) for a few days with his partner and my niece. I've only seen her once before and she's now 11 months old so quite good fun. Took her to the park yesterday afternoon and went on the swings with her. Such an enjoyable time.
Back for the Hallelujah Chorus at church this morning. Absolutely fabulous experience: 13 of us in the orchestra, scratch choir (two rehearsals) of about 30 congregation members, and about 600 in the congregation (I'm told). The rest of the service was just a high, and I went out to lunch with friends afterwards.
Now have 2 weeks off and the house needs sorting before my aunt / uncle visit on their way north on Tuesday :eek:0 -
Is Game of Thrones the series which is particularly nude and violent?
Gratuitous sex which adds nothing to the plot. The books are excellent though...Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Cheers viva
You're welcome round for a tour any time.
There is certainly plenty enough to do. Hopefully one day it will feel like it's 'finished'. I'm not planning on moving anywhere else at the moment, so the house will be (slowly) done up for me (as opposed to for selling). We shall have to wait and see whether it ends up being stunning or looking more like a multi-coloured bird-themed car boot sale against a backdrop of bad attempts at DIY :rotfl:
I like the fact we both have bird ideas going on, and colours. ..

Reading but not engaging at present as we've spent most of my productive time (not much) at the lottie the last 2/3 days (ashamed to say after prolonged discussion with OH we can't remember if we were there on Good Friday!
 )
We had a couple of drops of rain this morning, but mostly it's been overcast with a nasty chilly easterly wind in gusts when we were at lottie today. I continue to do general weeding and digging pits to try get out couch grass and bindweed. OH planted 2nd early potatoes today, and some primroses that we brought back from the caravan (they had seeded themselves into the part of the field that gets mowed, so it seemed a good idea to dig them up and bring them home). And then he went on digging up the stuff by the shed and found yet more carpet.
We'll be back there tomorrow to keep on weeding! <that roll eyes thing that has gone>
OH now has Match of the Day on, so I'm off to bed! :rotfl:0 -
my mother's musing about curtains for the cowshed - now my Dad's new study. She's thinking William Morris bird print. I'm not sure whether Dad gets much of a say, really, but he doesn't seem fussed....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I think of you more as monkeys
I've always known my house would be colourful. It's a rebellion against magnolia. I've lost count of the number of times my mum would tell me that when I had my own house it could be painted rainbow colours if I liked, but not until then. It's now likely to be a fairly pastel rainbow, and more of the blue/ green/ purple end of the spectrum - but it will be colourful
The bird thing has taken me a bit more by surprise. I'm not overly 'into' actual birds (they're ok from afar, but those beaks and claws look nasty). It's not a conscious thing, but I definitely seem to be drawn to bird-related decor at the moment.0 -

Monkey fabric I've given up on, the right one isn't about0 -
Gratuitous sex which adds nothing to the plot. The books are excellent though...
They've (Game of Thrones series) been boiling under in library land for several years now, but since the series came out they don't even get shelved - they make it as far as the returns trolley and get taken out again. This suits library staff just fine - books that find their customers and issue themselves are less work for us.
The other books that are doing similar at the moment are the Veronica Roth Divergent series which has just entered cinemas; and Donna Tartt's the Goldfinch. Don't go to your local library for any of these unless you are having a very lucky day...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I also made myself a little work area in the corner of the living room :
It's not an attractive desk, but it's functional (one of the desks that was left here). I'm hoping it's added incentive to get a move on typing so I can get rid of it :rotfl:
Go Nikkster! I am cheering you on as you try to motivate yourself to get on with it. :j:j:j:j:jHappy (almost belated) Easter to those who celebrate it :j
Happy (actually belated) Easter to all Easter-celebrating NP from me too. :easter:I've always known my house would be colourful. It's a rebellion against magnolia. My house isn't going to be magnolia by the time I've finished with it either.
When I was a teenager I chose the colours for my bedroom. It was north facing and I wanted to brighten it up, so the walls are bright yellow, and I wanted dark blue curtains (although had to make do with the brown ones that were already there). In 1999 when LNE and I moved, I bought bedroom curtains - dark blue ones. Three years ago when I bought this house, I didn't like the air force blue colour of my bedroom. It's north facing and I wanted to brighten it up, so the walls are now yellow (although not quite as bright as my teenage room). I am clearly not somebody whose taste in interior decor changes much over the passing years.
DS's room is very bright green, and DD's has the four walls different colours (blue, yellow, lilac and deep red). They chose them. The spare room was already a pleasant blue and still is. Downstairs, the dining room is very very pale with just a hint of a fresh greeny yellow. It's OK and can stay. The living room is pale mushroom with a feature chimney breast in dark mushroom. I want to redo it in a creamy buttermilk (to match the lampshade on the standard lamp) with the chimney breast in red (to match the curtains and cushions I bought a while ago). The kitchen is warm terracotta-ish tones and can stay. The playroom is as when we arrived - part lilac paint and part gold/white wall paper. DS and DD can decide what they want to do with it. The utility room was gunmetal when we moved in. I painted it white asap.
All the carpets everywhere are plain pale beige. They show every speck of dust, every spill, every muddy footprint. I hate them. They will be changed when I think DD is old enough that the new ones won't get immediately trashed, although I'm not sure what I'll change them to. I want something reasonably unobtrusive but much more forgiving of the rigours of family life.
Weather here was grey and overcast in the morning, with spotting rain around lunchtime. The rain got heavier as I drove southwards between about 3pm and 4pm and was bucketing down in Bristol when we got there. Not too heavy when we drove back late, though.
Lovely afternoon and evening with my dad and my aunt (my late mum's brother's widow). She's 70 but could easily pass for about 55, I think. She lives in Australia, so we don't see her often, so it was particularly nice to see her today. Also had a phone call from another aunt (my dad's sister). Must arrange to go and see her soon - she is always so interesting to talk to. She's 91 but could easily pass for about 70, I think.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
