Nope, in my parents' marriage it was my dad who wanted to keep everything, and my mum who made various attempts to get rid of stuff, usually when she thought he wasn't looking.
Now that she's gone, he is proposing to downsize from a 5-double-bedroom Victorian house into a 2-bedroom sheltered flat. We all know he's going to find it very very hard to decide what to take with him and what to let go.Applied for a job today in a local shop. The 'vibes' feel good, the hours are perfect for a start back to work, no idea what the pay is but don't really care...if it's minimum wage, then that will be the first time in my employment history that I would be paid a very basic wage.
I don't care though, after the break from paid employment I have had, I cannot really expect anything more than minimum wage.
It's a very different area to which I have ever worked in but what the hey, change is as good as a rest as they say.
Well done Sue! Hope you get it. I know how much you have hated not being able to contribute financially, however much we have told you that the care you provide for your boys is of immense value.
It is so exciting that they have got to a point where you are able to do this. Well done them and well done you. :T
As you say, it is being in work that is the thing at this stage. Higher salaries and more responsibility will be another step on the journey further down the line, I'm sure, but for now, enjoy this step.Good Friday morning here. I was the first one up which I love.
I'm in the process of cleaning the kitchen so I can make some more bread with the Generalissimos.
Hope you have a lovely day together Gen.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I knew there was something bothering me about this post, and my slow brain has finally identified what it was. Overpaying your mortgage does not count as "spending".
When will you get to see your updated mortgage balance?
I twigged, and could imagine it being a very satisfying feeling that the money was not frittered but used to pay down a long term debt.
There was also a bit of wondering if there could be joy in spending any of it on 'fun', Nikks further posts where she then went on to say that she was keeping an eye on her tendency to be "quite good at saving" provided a balance.0 -
One day I'll be a grown up and have a beautiful matching set of mugs for when people pop in for a coffee and a chat.
By that definition I am not a grown up. We have mugs of different shapes and thickness, cheap and expensive. So some like jam jars some bone china. Now I think of it most have some sentimental value.
The worst...mugs printed with photographs of long dead horses that DD loves. M&S mugs that were part of set my mum bought when she was trying to improve our collection, they are quite thick, not to my taste and yet the couple that remain make me smile. A funnel shaped bunny rabbit mug that once had an Easter Egg in it, a china mug with a chicken on it..it was a part of my 50th birthday present from DD (she bought or made me 50 gifts themed to 'me'. China mugs with pheasants and foxes...one of each that i put in OH/DD Christmas stocking. A pair of modern china mugs that my late friend bought me.
No wonder I find it hard to declutter if I can have that level of attachment to mugs:o0 -

In my relationship in it DH who hoards worse.
I love cook books. DH had me sent a new one this week. I 'read' meals when I cannot eat. I don't very often follow recipes, though sometimes I do. But I like to think it sits in there adding to a sort of well of knowledge to draw on.
As my brain is so bust its a bit of a an excuse, I just love cook books.
I particuArlY love community cookbooks, America has the best I have seen. Huge tomes of ring bound stuff with recipes for stuff you'd never make from packets, then the odd gem. My sibling got the ones from my childhood, but I'd love to get my own copies.0 -

I keep meaning to write a family cookbook. Just some stuff about what I make and why I make it as I do.
If I'm having radiotherapy I might have some time on my hands to do it. Something like that would be good to send the kids out into the world with.0
