Where've you been banned from then?:p

I've been on the interwebs for about 25 years... before anyone even groked the internet... in that time I've been banned from practically everywhere worth being banned from.

    Not moneysavingexpert, of course.

There were mugs everywhere at one point. Most had to go :A

One day I'll be a grown up and have a beautiful matching set of mugs for when people pop in for a coffee and a chat.

Until then, I'm comforted by my studentsville surroundings:)

I'm a director of my own security installation company (18 years).

I had never watched any Breaking Bad before I got the Chromecast. I'm using it more than I thought I would and it was only £30 (can be had for £25 on times)

That is an excellent series. However you should skip season 3 episode 10, an episode called the Fly. It contributes nothing to the story arc and it is an hour of your life you will not get back on your deathbed. The other episodes are all gold!

    Thank you :)
    Lovely to see you around

I found it stressful enough being on fixed-term contracts (as is usual in science/ academia), even though I'd more likely than not have a savings buffer (I heart saving), I think it would stress me out a lot not to have a regular income. I am a creature of habit, I like my monthly money rituals.

It's just occurred to me that I think I have an idea what most NP do for a living, but I have no idea what you do (that isn't me asking btw, just commenting).

I've never seen Breaking Bad, I'd really like to get the boxset, but I''m not allowing myself as I should be doing other things with my time. Perhaps it will be my self-bribing tool for this round of writing...
It's an uplifting story Nikkster, about how well scientists can cope with career change, caring for a family, turning crises into opportunities, using transferable skills, confronting and defeating criminals. old dogs showing they can new tricks, understanding the social impact of science and sending a strong message to the bad people in society.
It's got strong morals, the chief moral of the story being you shouldn't f*** with Walter White.

LOL .... thin end of the wedge... buying things in case others come round. Thing is, they rarely do ....

There was an article in The |Times about TVs, the 2 options are either to get as big a TV as you can and stick it centrally on the wall or have a more discreet TV angled in the corner of the room. The writer reckoned that the discreet TV was only better when you had guests (he estimated a max of 5% of the time) and even then half the time the guests would be impressed with a ginormous TV and could discuss "how many inches is yours?" etc So the benefit of having a discreet Tv in the corner was only for 2.5% of the time, so everyone should go for the cinema room look.

    Here too.

Every now and then we have a mug blitz and should discard the old and unmatched. But we have heirloom mugs that I can't bear to discard, so we have the new mugs and the really old and ditch the mugs in the middle. My oldest mug is a souvenir 1977 Queen's jubilee mug.

Is that a choice - paying tax on earnings in the year that you earnt them rather than were paid them? (I've always been PAYE)

    Not a choice, sadly.

For the first 7 years as a barrister, you pay tax on the money you actually receive in a specific tax year. Thereafter, you pay tax on the money you receive and a percentage (maybe 80%?) of your outstanding fees as well. I don't completely understand it, but you do notice the nasty hike in year 8. And notice that you are paying the govt tax on money it's not paid you, yet.
It is annoying if the Govt are paying late when it was the Govt some years back that spoke out at late payers and how it affected small businesses - and I think they put in place some 'law' about paying within 60 days (all fuzzy memories as it didn't affect me).

Barristers' fees are mostly not contract, and can't be sued for. They are "gentlemen's agreements", so if you don't get paid, you can't sue unless you have something else, like a rubber cheque to sue on.

Can't you fine them £50 a day if they haven't paid by 31 January or something?;)

    It'd be nice.....
