Feel free not to answer. And thank you so much for coming here so quickly. I was worrying, I'm no one, but I do care. A lot.
Oh Gen.
These bits especially.

Time off work? Not to feel poorly, but to spend with Mrs and the generalissimos doing important things? Is that an affordable thing now - insurances, sick pay etc?

You can say sorry if it makes you feel happier. It is a platitude which says little directly but which communicates that you care about me and Leon.
Luckily I work for an insurance company so we get excellent insurance as a part of our pension (super). I have life cover which will pay out about 10 years of net income and if I'm too sick to work I get income protection of 80% of 112% of my salary, rising with CPI until I'm 65. I also have one of the best (the best?) health insurance policies available in Australia.
Actually it's all zoomed through pretty fast so far. The only delay really was that the doctor wanted a 2 week wait prior to the second biopsy which was because he wanted to maximise the chances of a positive diagnosis.
PS you're not nobody.0 -
Hi Gen, what horrible news and timing. Your brain probably feels a bit like it has been hit by a freight train at the moment, so allow yourself the time to process it. If you want to be angry,be angry. If you want to cry, do that...
It is worth also finding out who the local experts are so you can do all you can to get the right treatment. Don't be afraid to take an active part in that, if that is what you want. It's reassuring to know that you are in the right hands.
Know also that the NP are here for you. Sure we have to go to work and stuff, but there's normally someone around. If you want to post lots and get it off your chest, do it. If you want to keep it brief, we understand.
Also, and I know you know this, it's in case your brain is a bit scrambled.. if you are going to Google stuff, make sure you go for proper websites.. NHS, Aussie equivalent, and so forth, Bmj, beware the quackery that will be out there.
Good luck Gen, thinking of you and the family xPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Is it wrong to hope that a 'sensible' country might find the answer after this farce? He has said that they may not even find what they're looking for, but would Australia release this lead if they weren't reasonably certain?
I was hoping for a live "breaking" news commentary from our own Correspondent in the Outback !!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
I'm happy with the treatment so far. The specialist could easily have taken the first diagnosis he got but went for a second biopsy. That might have saved my life as the treatment for the 2 things are pretty much opposite each other.0

Well not good news unfortunately.
It's lymphoma. Next steps are surgery to remove it and a PET scan to see if it's anywhere else in my body. Then it might be anything from no further treatment to chemo to a managed decline, we'll see what happens.
Another who doesn't quite know what to say apart from I am so sorry.
Just remember we are all here for you if you want to rant or just want a virtual shoulder to cry on.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Sh*t. Sometimes life just is not fair.
If it were me I would need a lot of emotional support at this point, hopefully your health insurance system also provides that sort of help as well as the topline treatment which I am sure will be excellent and successful.
I know we are many thousands of miles away but if there is ever anything we can do to help you should not hesitate to ask.I think....0 -
Oh Gen. I am so very sorry to hear that.
Hoping very much that the removal will be swift and straightforward, and the "has it spread?" will be "No."
Agree with everyone else that we are here for you for whatever you need us for.
Don't know whether this will mean anything to you, but I'll be praying for you.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Thanks SingleSue.
You lot kept me just about on the right side of sane when my life imploded a few years back. That still means a lot to me. I also like a good argument too of course which helps.0 -

Life isn't fair but what can you do? You just have to go with it. If I am going to die then I plan to do so with a smile on my face.
There is one thing you can do: persuade Mrs Generali that I should be able to watch jelly wrestling as a might be dying wish.0
