I did very well in maths for my entrance exam for high school, so well that I was put in the top set. The first lesson in maths at high school, I sat there absolutely dumbfounded as the teacher appeared to be speaking in a foreign language.....
Maths was one of my weaker subjects at school, I just wasn't interested. English was my love, especially creative writing, my fictional stories were legendary. Unfortunately, I got an absolute naughty word of a teacher in 4th year who destroyed my confidence and I went from being the top student in the year for English to being plain average....and all because I couldn't blooming draw!
Yep, you read that right, draw. We were given a homework where we had to write an advert with pictures for an ice lolly, I am no Van Gogh, even 3 year olds can do better stick men than me. The teacher handed me back the homework 5 times because the drawing was so bad, telling me to do it again. In the end, I refused to do another attempt with the words "If I was good at drawing, I would be doing an art O level but as I am so crap at art, I'm not and what the hell does art have to do with blooming English!"
It was not a good start......and it just went downhill from there although I did get one over on him for the oral exam. He tried to put me off doing my subject choice by telling me it wasn't a proper subject (it was a talk on the disabled and their potential even if severely disabled, each person had a strength in something), I ignored him, he told me I would fail....I got an A. For some obscure reason, talking about snooker or a pet dog was a proper subject choice.
For me, maths became my strength later on. I loved working with numbers, had perfect recall (and still do) for long sequences of numbers, would get excited about complex and multiple charges on invoices and even now, will remember someone's number, date of birth, number of house but not their name or road name.
I don't do creative writing at all...and doubt I could now even if I tried. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I'm the other way round. I can remember all the wordy stuff, but the numbers elude me. I can deal with them, but I just can't remember them.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Cheers everyone for kind thoughts. I'll let you know what happened.0

I'll probably fall asleep again before Generali gets back, but I am thinking of you, sir.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Ir seems that nice Tony Abbott in Austria has a job to try and locate debris, possibly assiciated with flight MH370. He looks like he's stood in the House of Commons - it's more than a little similar.
Is it wrong to hope that a 'sensible' country might find the answer after this farce? He has said that they may not even find what they're looking for, but would Australia release this lead if they weren't reasonably certain?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Well not good news unfortunately.
It's lymphoma. Next steps are surgery to remove it and a PET scan to see if it's anywhere else in my body. Then it might be anything from no further treatment to chemo to a managed decline, we'll see what happens.0 -

The chambers in our parliament look a lot like the Commons. The building itself is amazing inside. It's also built into a hill which you can walk on, have a picnic etc. It's to remind everyone that the people are above parliament.0 -

I don't know what to say. Sorry? That sounds pathetic. Please tell me that things are going to move more quickly now? I feel angry that it has taken this long. Have they said how they okan to look after you now and what type?
Time off work? Not to feel poorly, but to spend with Mrs and the generalissimos doing important things? Is that an affordable thing now - insurances, sick pay etc?
Feel free not to answer. And thank you so much for coming here so quickly. I was worrying, I'm no one, but I do care. A lot.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
