    Well not good news unfortunately.

It's lymphoma. Next steps are surgery to remove it and a PET scan to see if it's anywhere else in my body. Then it might be anything from no further treatment to chemo to a managed decline, we'll see what happens.

So sorry to hear this. Hope you have the support you need.

I googled. I know you aren't meant to. Survival rates are very good. Thank goodness for the early diagnosis, I hope your treatment needs are minimal.

Oh Gen. I am so very sorry to hear that.

Hoping very much that the removal will be swift and straightforward, and the "has it spread?" will be "No."

Agree with everyone else that we are here for you for whatever you need us for.

Don't know whether this will mean anything to you, but I'll be praying for you.

Thanks LydiaJ. I'm pretty much hoping the same thing. Actually what im really hoping is that they'll say, "oops sorry. Actually it's a cyst after all. Please accept this very large cheque to compensate you for your trouble". Unfortunately I think that's unlikely.

Being in your prayers I find very touching despite having no faith myself. Faith is a very strongly held belief set for most and it's a very powerful demonstration of love for your fellow man. That's what I reckon. It might just be a trite comment tossed around but I don't think so.

About 70% are still alive after 5 years. As we caught this early and treatment continues apace and I'm young (normally a bad thing with cancer I think but a good one in this case) I reckon I've got a much better chance than that. Simply not having the waiting lists must push me up the survival curve.

Life isn't fair but what can you do? You just have to go with it. If I am going to die then I plan to do so with a smile on my face.

There is one thing you can do: persuade Mrs Generali that I should be able to watch jelly wrestling as a might be dying wish.

If you PM me your address, I will personally write to Mrs G. Do you remember your "three weeks and unlimited money holiday" plan? ;)

I would also like you to plan for what you're going to do when you've kicked Leon into touch. Will you still want to do what you're doing?

I did maths at a level but I wasn't very good at it. My school forced me to also do further maths for reasons I still don't quite understand. I was good at pure but abysmal at applied maths - I just didn't get it. I got something like 97 or 98% in pure but 40-odd% in applied so that averaged out to a B overall.

I got 7% in further applied maths. I think 40% in further pure and got an N overall. I don't put that one on my CV!

I was similar, managed to find a uni course that, with a bit of careful option choices, meant I could avoid applied maths totally.

I also echo those sentiments, a lot of other posters will too, but possibly will not be saying anything because sometimes it is difficult to know what to say. But I can guarantee you Gen that you are well thought of and respected on this forum board by many (if not all).
