If you PM me the name of the bike shop I'll make their name dirt on every bike forum I know.

But when did this happen? If they gave PN bad advice back in 2005, it would be a bit unfair to name and shame them now. It may have been one incompetent employee who's long since left. If it was recent, then fair enough.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

You need a recce of IKEA to get your eye in.

Can do Thursdays and Fridays if you want a NP outing. I have no sense of style, so you may want other NP with such talents.

I buy based on size/functionality/price .... with a secret fetish for animal prints.

It's easy buying with me .... you hear the functional spec and know you're looking for the cheapest that does the job :)

IF .... (caps) ... I do offer and IF ... it's accepted, then an Ikea visit wouldn't be required until mid May. I want to buy stuff and take it straight home and put it into place... not accumulate belongings I can't use immediately where I am now. No point putting stuff into the car at Ikea, lugging it out here, having it cluttering up space, then lugging it back out when I move....

    Fair point.

There's a bike shop near me that just wants to sell you a new chain and gearing every time you go in. Drives me mad.

This is a really simple technical issue that I could fix in about 5 minutes even if I had to go through the fixing the gears and also shorten the chain. I fixed this on my son's bike in about a minute a few months ago and I really am not a practical man.

It's the bike shop 101 entry point. It should be a prerequisite of working there to understand a bike's drive train and braking system at a very basic level. Not understanding that could very easily kill someone. If the rear derailleur goes into the rear spokes it'll force the bike into a skid and could put you under a car or lorry.

    That's good to hear, Gen!

On the music bit my theme was Wizzard with See My Baby Jive. A band that I loved and I think it was the first band I went to see.:D

And while I like music, lj, I couldn't cycle with headphones on.
And good to see you back, PN.

We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Halfools, Truro. Obviously real name is the national car/bike accessory retailer there...

I told the man "don't be ridiculous" at the time.... but what can you do!

Their name is already mud. My work is done there.

Really, it is very easy to adjust the clunky gear things. You won't break them unless you confuse a hammer with a screwdriver or something.
