We have two cat radiator beds ( awful looking hammock things but cats love them) and the cats, particularly mauve squeaker, sit in them all day now, hoping they'll get hot again. Mauve squeaker has left the bed for the first time other than for food and loo that I know of today....to wriggle over to me. Pink whistley ( who was out in the sun earlier) is curled in a ball in her radiator bed.

My mother acquired one of those somewhere. Both her cats, now no longer with us, and Yossie now, have disdainfully refused to go anywhere near the thing of their own accords, and if placed in it, stalked off.

My house is a total dump. There is proper building type dirt on every surface and I can't see out of the windows for dirt. Can't do anything about the windows it as there is scaffolding up, making the house dark as well. The dirt on the surfaces reappears instantaneously.

Taken to terrible comfort eating this morning. A can of lilt, two sausage rolls, a Topic and two Viennese Whirls for breakfast.

I hate this house. Is it possible for a house to ruin your life?

Oh Doozer. That sounds miserable. I grew to hate the house I lived in before this one because I couldn't keep the kids' mess under control and so it was always a blight on everything. It was in the wrong part of town, and lots of things were wrong with it.

I was there for 5 years. I am much happier here, even though I still don't keep on top of the kids' mess - although it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. It's the part of town where I want to be, I chose it, I own it, and it's been built properly!

So, to be practical ... Are you stuck there indefinitely? Or is there any realistic prospect of moving any time soon? Would the building dirt problem follow you anywhere you went? Have you hated other houses in the past, or is this one much worse than anywhere else?

Hugs, anyway. Living in a house you hate is pants. :(

We're being visited by a bullfinch. He's very handsome indeed! I don't think I've ever seen one before.

When I was about 10 I made some Airfix models of bullfinches. When we had the summer party for all the staff and students belonging to the uni course my dad was in charge of, some of the students spent a happy afternoon winding me up about them by complaining that if they were bullfinches they ought to have horns.

Being a teacher may not be mega bucks but it is still a fairly decent income, got to be better than his original thought which was to be a famous director! :rotfl:

I'm actually very proud and impressed that he wishes to be a teacher, they may get bad press but almost all of the teaching staff I have had to work with over the years, have been very dedicated and super supportive of what I was trying to achieve with youngest....and it is thanks to them that youngest has managed to stay in main stream school (albeit part time until part way through year 6) and his doing GCSEs rather than basic life skills qualifications.

I can imagine that James would make an excellent teacher.

Teaching's not going to make anyone stinking rich, but you can have a reasonably comfortable lifestyle on the salary as long as you don't want to live in London. But then you don't have to live in London because you can teach all over the country.

It makes me smile to hear about those teachers being so great with your boys. Thank you for sharing that. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Yesterday I had an outpatient appointment at a local hospital. It did not go well....

So fab care from one place and bl**dy awful from another.

I will see my GP shortly, discuss the funding and quality issues and may discuss transfer of my care from the District Hosp to the Teaching Hosp.

So very sorry to hear how things began, but relieved that you were able to get some proper treatment at the teaching hospital. Hope the discussion with your GP is productive. :)

Lovely. I have never heard of parents doing that before. I think it is wonderful. Well done that mummy and daddy:T

It's not encouraged if the children are small. The 8 year gap between Isaac and Aethelbald is quite a bit longer than average, but it does mean that Isaac is old enough to know how to behave responsibly at the scan. If I'd taken DS to DD's scan, he'd have been all over the place, since he was only two and a half at the time.

I'm sure I wouldn't have taken a toddler - Isaac is, as you say, big enough and ugly enough to understand and be interested in what's going on, and shut up and keep quiet when told to do so (most of the time, anyway!)

First thing you are taught when you start taking temperature of large animals... Never loosen grip on that themometre....I have never spent much time thinking about the anal sphincter but, its quite remarkable really, isn't it?

Sphincter is a word I quite like. Its sounds just like what it is I think.

Well we all know the difference between an oral and a rectal thermometer don't we? ;)

James has managed to secure a part time job helping young people struggling with English, maths and science, right up his street and along the lines of what he wants to do in life (his aim now is to become a teacher in philosophy!)

Hope he enjoys one of my fave sites!

Maybe, despite your mothers frugality, the house never got cold enough?

Mauve squeaker is in there again now, hoping. :D

    Endocrinologist. :(.

Patients are vile often. Incidents of nasty ness in waiting rooms are frequent and often its impossible to safely report because of reception locations. They are vile to staff too which is taken more seriously. Staff are often horrid to patients.

Urge, I just hate the whole thing and were I able to I'd be glad when its over! Lol.

I saw a rheumi a couple of years ago who during the appointment decided my problems were caused by weight and nothing else and was very dismissive and giving me no chance to explain my history. At the end of the appointment, I handed him my timeline of problems going back to primary school age (including what size and weight I was) and left, almost in tears.

The report I got through was completely different to what he said during the appointment, a complete about face in fact as it was clear my problems were there before I had put on weight and that it was the problems with my joints which had caused the weight gain and not the other way around.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Had a bit of a lovely experience at work today.

The CIO (I for Investment, pretty important in an asset management company!) was asking how the treatment was going and I said I was off to get the Big Results tomorrow. When he found out I was going by myself he asked if I wanted him to go. The incredible thing is he genuinely meant it.

He leaves on Friday and will be very sorely missed by a lot of people in the company.

I've been very positive all week about tomorrow but I'm starting to crap myself about it now. I just want all this to go away, it's too hard.

The kids have decided that my scar from my parotidectomy looks like a bottom and now refuse to hold my right hand 'in case I poo cancer on them'.

Don't know if you've caught the weather forecast today but there is very poor air quality expected today, esp in East Anglia and Herts. Thought I'd mention so that nobody forgets inhalers etc.

Combination of poor air that hasn't circulated, pollen and Sahara sand apparently.
