Being made to feel like a right idiot by my 8 year old is getting to be a habit. Isaac came to the scan and was fascinated, and when she showed the blood flow through the placenta, asked if it was infra-red. She said it wasn't, it was the "doppler effect" and Isaac, Adam and the sonographer embarked on a conversation about that which went right over my head.
Humph!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I worked with a lot of gastroenterologists. They retrieve all manner of things from where the sun don't shine
First thing you are taught when you start taking temperature of large animals... Never loosen grip on that themometre....I have never spent much time thinking about the anal sphincter but, its quite remarkable really, isn't it?
Sphincter is a word I quite like. Its sounds just like what it is I think.0 -

Someone who shouldn't have made an erm non-vet related comment along these lines after what must have been one too many. Friend and I who were part of this conversation are not easily shocked, but were by this comment. We still refer to this incident, but I can't type what we refer to it as!
I expect that makes little sense, would make more sense with the 'incident name'. But I'm not sure I could bring myself to type it even if if would get past the rude word filter!0 -

Lovely. I have never heard of parents doing that before. I think it is wonderful. Well done that mummy and daddy:T0 -
We didn't take him to the 12 and 20 week scans, as they are to check for heartbeat and anomalies and so forth, and we thought that if there was trouble, better he wasn't there. For a growth and head size scan, though, the risk was much lower, and he wanted to come when offered the opportunity....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I was quite impressed that one of the teams managed to fit it in (in a totally inappropriate context) on University Challenge this week. It was almost as though it was for a bet, but a bit high stakes in the semi-finals so will have to think not. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

We've been asked to keep the heating on for a month for various reasons. One is to benefit the house. Its only on a couple of hours a day but its delicious. The cats think so.
We have two cat radiator beds ( awful looking hammock things but cats love them) and the cats, particularly mauve squeaker, sit in them all day now, hoping they'll get hot again. Mauve squeaker has left the bed for the first time other than for food and loo that I know of today....to wriggle over to me. Pink whistley ( who was out in the sun earlier) is curled in a ball in her radiator bed.0 -
Really sorry to hear of your travails Spirit. I hope you're ok.
It makes me thankful that I qualified for such good medical insurance. Mine is only open to teachers and I qualified via Mrs Generali's Dad. I can just get stuff done and worry about paying for it later. It's cheaper and more comprehensive than most.0 -
