  • Sillygoose is quite correct as I found to my cost!!!

I booked a holiday to the Algarve with Loveholidays last September. All was ok, until I arrived and found that the accomodation wasn't what I'd booked and paid for. Through Loveholidays website I'd paid extra money for a one bedroom apartment with a better view. however, when we arrived, despite the accomodation voucher confirming this, the hotel refused to provide this accommodation unless we paid an extra 10 Euro's per night, for the upgrade.

When I took this up with Loveholidays when I returned they denied that I had paid any extra for the view, despite them having taken my money & sent me the vouchers!! Their only defence being that that their own booking confirmation did not confirm a "resort view", but they took the extra money!!! When I contested this they even said (quote) "I agree this is very misleading as we haven’t got this advertised on our website..." but they have refused to accept any liability.

Unfortunately the company that Loveholidays used for the accommodation (lowcostbeds) isn't an ABTA member so it seems that there's nothing that ABTA themselves can do!

I would therefore say be very aware of using Loveholidays, (I certainly won't ever again!) because they're using 3rd parties so their ABTA memebership may well be totally worthless when it comes to resolving any issues!

Thanks for cheering me up! :)

I have emailed the accommodation owner who seems genuine and responsive and they have confirmed the booking was received, is what we booked and they are happy to accept the Loveholidays voucher for it.

But.. as you say its done through other sub agents so it will be a case of 'fingers crossed' until we are on the return flight home all OK.

To be honest knowing now how the holiday is put together, it wouldn't be my first choice next time... there is something unnerving about heading off abroad with little more than simple 'vouchers' you print yourself as payment and confirmation and no reps on the island.
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.
  • Hi sillygoose,

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it worse! :)

But Loveholidays were also recommended to me and I do know several people that have used them (including family members) who have not had any problems... so, to my knowledge, I do not know anyone who has successfully complained and had a satisfactory resolution... I personally won't use them again becasue it is my opion that they dealt with the complaint in a shoddy manner, didn't really seem very interested and despite even admitting that their website was "misleading" refused to accept any liability.

I work in Procurement, for a living, and I believe that the measure of a good company isn't just the way that they deal with your order, but probably more importantly how they deal with things if/when they go wrong.

I'm just really grateful that the complaint wasn't a major issue that could have ruined the holiday for us.

Hopefully your holiday will be enjoyable and you won't have any problems... :)
  • I think you will find that hayes and jarvis are part of first choice holidays that were taken over by TUI. I used to work for first choice so i know what I am talking about :j

Unless I'm missing something, where do Hayes and Jarvis come into it?

They don't, the post is factually correct but completely irrelevant to the thread. You should, though, reassure yourself that the poster does "know what I am talking about", it's reading that appears to be more of an issue for them..

Or maybe not given the context.

They could possibly have recently left due to childcare responsibilities for example........

Thank you. Yes, I know it was factually correct, but I thought it was me having the reading problems lol (or needed to go to Specsavers). :D
  • I have been with these only because Hayes beds used to be part of Frist choice and i used to work for first choice so at least you know the people working for them have the correct travel experience and know what they are doing not like On the beach who are just a sales force based with not much travel experience, theres no hidden costs with love holidays. I would def recommend them to anyone.

This is getting silly, Hays travel and Hayes and jarvis are two entirely separate businesses. Love used to be part of the Hays group using their licences when they didn't have their own, Hayes and Jarvis was a long haul operator bought by First Choice and recently sold by them. They have nothing whatsoever to do with Love Holidays
